One of my neighbors

After reading Donovans post, I figured I would tell you one of my neighbors.

If you a have a neighbor like this you understand. I'll only highlight his most idiot moves.

1. He has 11 acres, tells his kids to hit the golf balls in the field so they don't tear up the yard. I have to tell them to stop since they are teeing up on the soybeans which are about 4 inches.

2. Plants his garden in my field before spring tillage. Honest truth. The guy I rent my land to fixed it with one pass on spring tillage. Neighbor told me, "oh that was a low wet spot in your field, I didn't think you would plant there."

3. Plants new garden at the edge of my field. Waters with 32oz plastic cups, but leaves them in the garden. Any wind takes those and five gallon buckets and blows them in my field. Worst is he won't pick them up. 3 times I have picked them up, and set them at the edge. Sometimes he will grab them other times, the wind brings them back again.

Finally this spring I was sick of picking up his stuff, left it lay for two weeks, he didn't touch it. Right or wrong, I needed to brush hog my field for new tree plantings. Countless 32oz cups got mulched, 2 or 3 5 gallon buckets, a planter off his porch and his flannel jacket. All of this stuff can be 100 to 200 feet into my fields.

He trimmed branches the other day and just pushed them over the line to my place. He has a brush pile but its on the other side of his property. Bottom line he's just a lazy person.

I now leave a 3 foot strip of weeds to help slow down his junk. Thinking of a snow fence next.

Neighbor on the other side (good guy), has said more than once lazy neighbors kids will just walk in his house, don't knock or anything, and just start going through the fridge and eating dinner. FWIW lazy neighbor is quite well employed along with his wife, so money for food it not an issue, its just lack of proper teaching.

Sorry for being kind of long, but I do believe good fences make good neighbors in this case.

Rick

Dont know how long the property line is but sounds like an electric fence is in order...or maybe a planting of briars and let them run the length of the line. They'd trap about everything once they grow a few years.

Neighbor kids would find the pickings pretty slim in my fridge. But I would be REAL unhappy to find someone's kid in my home much less going through my fridge.

First time would result in a serious chat with parents. Second time would result in a chat with the sheriff.

Some people just don't do boundaries well. Parent's farm was a 3 forties with about 1 1/2 acres sold off a corner by a previous owner. The first people, the ones that lived there when we moved in were A55HOLES, the next two were good neighbors. Didn't hurt our feelings at all when the first guy represented the lot as 2 acres when he sold it and got sued. The new owner's attorney suggested the seller approach us and buy 1/2 acre to make the lot as represented. Of course he tells the new owner that we were jerks and wouldn't sell any land. We didn't feel bad telling the new owners that the jerk never approached us. Original owners were locals, the new owners came out from Lansing. The new owners learned how to move with the flow, previous owners planted pine trees on the back of the lot. The new owners were having problems getting the grass cut, I offered to hit it with the haymower, they declined because of the pine seedlings. Next time I had the haymower out they asked if the offer was still good.

Neighbor lets me cut the front part of this lot for hay to reduce his lawn mowing time. Couple of years a go a bonfire was made in themiddle of the field leavig beer bottles, unburned wood, etc.
I figured it was his field and I wasn't paying ren, so I didn't say anything. This year I cut the field, leaving the fire remains as usual, then when I went back to rake I thought he had cleaned up. I was wrong, he had just removed some of the worst of it. I started throwing the half burned wood and broken glass in the loader and he came down to help. Turns out it wasn't his fire or bottles, but his sorry neighbor who had come over there and built the fire while the land owner was gone on vacation! I would have gritted my teeth and cleaned it up for him before now If I had known that. The sorry neighbor naturally has moved out long ago.

Yep,neighbor drilled his well on my property.. NICE WELL.. After couple months of bantering and him being a Azz about it I called my lawyer.. she drew up papers for him to rent the well from me. Within two weeks he put in a new well on his side. AND I have a nice well on the far end of my property..

Second one.. kids were playing and had hung a tire swing in my draw.. Fine.. but when my dog ended up down there to see who, what why.. I get the call from the mom chewing on me for my dog being ON ITS OWN PROPERTY bothering her kids.. I put a fence up that next week.. in that process of fencing noticed he planted some trees on my side. Told him he needed to remove them.. Didnt so I did and put them nicely in a bucket and set them on his property.. HE NEVER PLANTED THEM.. let them die right in the pots.. DUMB &*&^%

Get a snow fence, put it up, keep it up.

The kids going through the fridge....WTF? If one of those kids is a teenage boy, shove his Azz into the wall to let him know you are pizzed off.

Get real smelly garbage and leave it lay on his side of the snow fence. Maybe some paper bags of used kitty litter and some dog p==p too.

And I thought I had bad neighbors.

Some of you folks take entirely too much sh!t from people..... Gotta do like Barney Fife and "just nip it in the bud"..............

Dave, do you hire out, those people skills, now I can see a huge market, have you considered this type of work, you know keeping these pesky neighbors in line, and on their toes, cripes I can see you having all the locals fall in and standing at attention in no time LOL !!!!!!!!! :)

And forget about all those fence, implement, building, and similar questions, with this new career you won't have time LOL !!!

You'd be surprised how folks come on line when you just have enough balls to face them and be prepared to (at least make them believe you are) beat the consideration into them.... As I said earlier, don't win a lot of friends that way, but the ones you get are keepers........ Important thing is, they stop doing whatever it is that isn't neighborly... I give a ratsass whether they do it out of respect or fear.....

I know what you are saying, surprisingly, with all the land and places we've owned over the years it did not happen more, but then there's always one or a select few that can be hard to deal with. The last time I had to get involved with rotten neighbor, it got real ugly, involved state police, sheriff, myself a courtroom and a deceitful neighbor looking to claim something that was not theirs. It is in situations like these that you put the boots to em and not look back. Ironically, go one door down, you have people that are the most friendly, respectful, and pleasant neighbors you could ask for, just human nature I suppose. By the same token it helps to be just as nice and reflect your appreciation, we have one neighbor who has been here a couple less years than us, very nice, meticulously maintained place with a nice shop attached that I have watched countless classic cars come out of, I can't hold a candle to this guys work and how he keeps his place, the whole darned neighborhood follows his lead too, funny to watch, he starts cutting grass, trimming, we do the same, cause he makes us look bad if'n we don't LOL !!!

Ditto, take chit and you will get mo' chit.

We are the "new" people on the block and our 1.5 acre lot was the last wooded lot in the 'hood. Kids used it as a hang out, neighbors used it as a dumping ground.

Prior absentee land owner had trouble but not around to "fix" it.

They built a house and we bought it.

First winter one guy and his wife Xcross country ski right behind the house. Like 10 feet from the back door!
They wave hi when I go out because the dog is going crazy.
Asked them to please not do that again as it drive the dog and then us crazy. He replied something like we have always done this. I reply the next time I will let out the dog and call the police. They did not pull that crap again.

Guy to the right (looks like Homer Simpson) figures he can keep dumping grass and yard waste like he always has. Asked him to stop, asked his lawn service to stop. He continues. I finally get ------ and go and have property survey reviewed and mark all boundaries so they are highly visible. Homer moves his old unused dog house in front of marker so he can't see it. Continues dumping grass and dog waste over prop line.
Pete buys Hercules('66 4500 TLB) and parks it right in view of Homers back deck. Homer complains to town. Blows a cork when he hears my TLB is perfectly legal. Pete sends pics to code officer who notices Homers dog house and play/swing set (kids are older and it was falling apart) were both in violation of 20 ft setback. Pete had him cited. Called police regarding illegal dumping. Police warned him next time he will be charged with illegal dumping. No more dumping on my property! He dumps over the other prop line onto another neighbors property.

Unfortunately mine stink on both sides. Fallen tress issue with guy on left side. They fall, I clean then up even though they fell on his property. He lies and tells me a certain tree is on my property and asks me to take it down. After I got the survey review and clearly marked it as his problem he did nothing. He lets me keep the hardwood I cleaned up off his property that my 15 yr old son helped clean up so my son can sell it.
2 months later comes on my property when I am away on biz and tells my wife his friend is taking the wood. She tells him come back when Peter's home and he gets rude with her and him and his friend take the wood anyway. I get home and start screaming for the chicken chit to dare come out of his house and be disrespectful to me. He acts like he is not home.
There is a storm when he is away. I pay for a tree guy to cut a damaged limb hung up on one of his trees from one of my trees. Tree guy drops it on his electric svc! Should have left that act of God right where it was.
He gets home and runs across the street and starts screaming at a 60 something year old neighbor about me and the tree guy we shared. Calls the cops on me. Cops come and ask me some questions, I have to give up the tree guys card (who did not return me calls about issue). Cop asks me why this guy and I do not see eye to eye. I explain about the disrespect to my wife and the trying to get to take down a tree that is his responsibility and how he screamed at the 60 yr old guy across the street and said "that guy(me) has to go." I told officer I was worried the limb would fall and hit his house so I PAID to get it down. Also added he better explain to him about the "Act of God" part about storm damage and how where ever a healthy tree lands is where/who is responsible for cleaning it up. Added he best get that tree down because it was on ledge and weighted such that if it fell it was going right thru his new addition.
God heard me, LOL, 2 months later a large limb from that very tree took out the railing on his new staircase.

So now after 3 yrs neither of these lousy neighbors talks to us BUT they do stay the hell off my property.
I am the only one on the block who helps the retired couple across the street as the other two would not help anyone.

The one on the left has a postage size lot and his house is already too big for the lot. They have 4 kids now and are going to outgrow their house at some point. You can bet dam sure he is not getting another variance to make it any bigger.

Burned Homer up when retired guy gave me his mint JD lawn mower when he got a new one! I fixed his Ford excursion and take his yard debris to dump whenever I take my trailer loads up.

The x cross country skiers have become friends too as he has retired and asked Hercules and my help pulling some stumps to clear for a victory garden.

Recently bought a mill and plan to make the ugliest home made fencing I can to box in both these self centered jerks.
The thing is both have tiny little 1/2 lots with house coverage above the limits. Long term a barn placed on the outer edge of my lot and a driveway along the prop line (legal in Maine) to that barn is just what Homer deserves.

Where is Andy? When I started reading YT Tractor Forum I didn't know that I had moved to Mayberry and begin to see Barney, Gomer, and Goober stirring up more crap than Andy could get settled down. I have read a lot of Dave2's post and so far none of them are about farming or tractors. They all sound like he has little man's syndrome, trying to prove that he is a man,and he does not care who he tries to prove it to, women, kids, neighbors, prolly hide from a man. I even read on another forum where Daven I mean Dave2 got into it with neighbors because they wanted to get a small bucket of horse manure to fertilize some flowers or something. The bud you'er trying to nip is the wrong bud Bud

Don't get me started. I had to call a surveyor one time because of an azzhole like that. After that,if he was in the auto parts store and I walked in,he'd go right out the back. If I was there,he'd sit in his truck down the street til I left. By that point I thought it was pretty funny and I started getting off on the power trip.

It's funny how he tells of threatning people with beatings .Then there was a post about a year ago about how he hides behind his answering machine. Is that an oxymoron or just a regular plain moron. Mmmmmm.... Roll

Planting Rosa Multiflora is like a doomsday device. The seed and tillers always work their way back to the arschluh, who planted them! I had a neighbor who planted them, and he regrets it to this day! Shoot yourself in the foot, and be done with it, spite only cuts the spiteful.

Wow. I guess I've been lucky. Never had any real problems with my neighbor's. Don't know why.

Yeah, I've owned four homes and never had neighbor problems in 40 years I guess I'm just lucky.

I've got at this moment, 32 different neighbors that have property that adjoins mine. Never had a cross word with a single one of them.
David

The natural terrain prevents us from having problems on probably 75% of our borders (river, creeks with swamps or in deep ravines, etc..), but the places where we could have trouble are peaceful. Except for one farm, the neighbors have been around here a few generations and our families have been friends for many years or they are good folks who rent land from us and have for decades. The other place has more neighbors around it on a small portion of the border, but we have never had any problems. I know things can change in a hurry, but I hope we continue to have good neighbors. At least we can't see any neighbors other than immediate family from the house, and they are a quarter of a mile away.

Couple of empty places close by, move in and do some of the same stuff these folks were doing and I'll take care of you too.Nothing personal, just a fact of life.... You seem to have a personal issue with me so why not shoot me an email and see if we can clear it up?? Same invitation to dr sportster but he/she prolly won't have the balls to do more than just stand back where it's safe and yell "yea".....

Have a good day....

If I did live close to you and we walked over to ask if we could get a little manure for fertilizer and you went postal on us, I would think the men with white coats and nets would need to pay you a visit.
