I post this every Memorial and Veterans Day to express thanks you to all Veterans past and present, and can you believe it, someone was offended by this once when I did??????????? But I intend to keep posting it even thought it may get poofed by the speech police lol By the way, these are NOT my words ONLY from an E Mail I received from a Vet buddy, I have no idea who wrote it in case you want to respond to whomever it was???

"All gave some, some gave all"

It is the VETERAN, not the preacher,
who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the VETERAN, not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the VETERAN, not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the VETERAN, not the campus organizer,
who has given us freedom to assemble.

It is the VETERAN, not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the VETERAN, not the politician,
Who has given us the right to vote.

It is the VETERAN,
who salutes the Flag,

It is the veteran,
who serves under the Flag,

ETERNAL REST GRANT THEM O LORD,
AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON THEM.

JohnT the real problem is that most of the population of the USA does not agree with these words. They have no contact with anyone that serves their country. That is just left to the stupid and poor. The rich and "smart" people are too good/cool to fight for this country anymore.

I have asked my Grand Daughter's friends what Memorial Day is for. 90% of them say it is to celebrate the start of summer. They have no clue what it is really about.

I guess that after all the years of not learning anything patriotic in school has turned this country on it's rear. I was in a Memorial Day parade this morning. It was so short that many did not even know what it was. I can remember when the parade would fill the whole town. A Friday night football game would have had many more people. Just for a silly game that will be forgotten in a week.

People too busy to even stop and honor those that give them the freedom to do what they want. It will not be long until the masses will no longer have the freedom they value so little. We are ripe for it to happen. Too few would even know what to do to stand up for anything other than the latest fad.

I didnt know there were so many, thanks for the info, and I salute them even if it were only 1% They, like Christ and Police and Fireman etc have laid their lives on the line to save the rest of whatever percent it is !!!!!!!!!

God Bless them all and the USA

Good one John. Vance AFB always had T38 flyover requests for Memorial Weekend all around central Oklahoma. I got to fly in several. Performed missing man a couple of times. Finding 8 instructor pilots on that weekend for 4 aircraft was almost impossible. I jumped everytime there was an opportunity. It was a standard training mission with a 15 minute diversion over the actual target in which most cases was over cemeteries. I considered it an honor.

John T.

You keep posting and we'll keep reading..

After all to quote:

"I may not agree with what you say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it"

I to received an email along the same thoughts:

"A veteran is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to
The United States of America for any amount, up to and including their life."

Marc

That was actually a Jeopardy question a few weeks ago. As a Veteran, I knew the percentage, just had to do the math to pick their closest option. Better half said, "I knew you"d know that one".

Thanks for posting, John.

Though not a veteran or even former military, my Mother was a proud WWII veteran and I have enormous respect for all of our veterans.

I spent my morning with my restored M38a1 military Jeep in our local Memorial
Day ceremonies. Although I couldn't serve due to an old injury, I'm always proud to help honor those who did.

This is not the day for veterans. We celebrate the deeds and the sacrifices of our veterans on November 11th.
Today is the day we celebrate those who did Not come back.
Veterans are those whose names are found on emails and mail boxes and bank accounts, on college transcripts, tractor clubs, as fathers of brides, on automobile titles, property deeds and church memberships.
Today we celebrate and give thanks to those whose names are only found on tombstones and monuments.
Please. Let's not confuse the two.

Thanks, my thoughts also. Most people do not know the difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

SINCERE THANKS to the ones that gave the ultimate SACRAFICE , and all the ones they left behind that picked the pieces of a shattered life and carried on for this nation, just wish some of the leaders would read it's Constitution a little more closely

The point you make Ultradog is lost on far too many people now days. I think the confusion started when the name of this special day was changed from Decoration Day to Memorial Day.
