Will be heading out in the morning to Larned, Ks. Class reunion in Rozel (ISD 496)tomorrow evening, the 25th!!! Quick trip to Salina on Sunday and back home to Oklahoma that nite ...... Taking back roads, Elk City, Vici, Woodward, OK, then Coldwater, Greensburg, Kinsley, Larned, KS. Will try to take a few pics, when I see something interesting. Neighbor taking care of the (guard) dogs, he's the only one they will let get close besides us.....lol!!

BTW, any fence rows with goodies along the way???

Ralph, Remember that Greensburg, Ks was the town basically blown off the map by that F5 Tornado 2 or so yrs ago, would be worth a Look See to see how much had built back!
Later,
John A.

Went for my 20th reunion few months after the tornado hit in May (4th??) 2007...came in from the east, all intact but as soon as you got closer to the edge of town, it was a different picture (I got some somewhere on film....)and the west side was ALL gone. We'll stop if we have time, but I did watch the rebuilding a bit on TV, had a series about it.....IIRC

I have a friend in Larned. He used to say "The only way Kansas got settled was becuase the wives refused to go one more mile." I enjoyed a visit to the fort. Some really nice country. So different from all the forests in Michigan.

Just made that trip a few weeks back. Didn't hit all the towns you mentioned but a few. Greensburg is still being rebuilt. I was born and raised in and around Lawrence so i go that way about once a year if I can.

Nice WWII memorial to the B-29 and crews at Great Bend airport.

Combine graveyard (salvage yard) somewhere south of Hesston, acres and acres.

Haven't flown over Woodward, but I've stayed over there for a week or so. We parked the combines at that country elevator 10 miles or so south of Woodward in the area of where 50 and 183 meet. Met up with a whole bunch of your Oklahoma chiggers while laying in the grass under a combine. Jim

I worked on the hospital in Coldwater a few years back. Comanche County I believe. Nice little town with plenty of friendly people.

Enjoy your return trip to kansas. I think the reopening of the big well in Greensburg is this weekend, "worlds largest hand dug well" I think. Our family farm is about 20 miles north of Great Bend. Fence rows around here are getting pretty well cleaned up. Have a safe trip.

Pete's Pizza is still open and doing a lot of business, the Chief still shows movies and both motels said "no vacancies".!!

Yeah, not much that can be seen from the road...will post pics of a mammoth find, though not for sale, yet, in a few days! Makes a combine lover drool!!
