If I weld it, what kind of rod should I use or should I use the boys wire welder. I guess this is a common problem on them tractors. I was worried about the difference of the two types of metals.

I welded several at the weld shop. We always used a wire welder but a think a stick welder will work. The arm is a type of cast that welds well.

It's probably forged steel, not cast. Forged steel will weld just fine with your normal welding practices.
