i would like real world opinions on a 70hp leyland tractor. I dont know series/numbers etc it is just listed as a 70 hp tractor. Hadnt really considered one until now as i dont see alotof them for sale or in use either around here. --found one for 4800 with a shredder and a blade.Really would like some advice first though---thanks.

RUN FOREST RUN!!!!!!! LOL You have several problems.

1) The price is way to high for one of them orphans. They usually bring scrap steel price. I see them at auctions that run and work and they don't bring more than $1000-1500 tops.

2) The reason they are so cheap is that parts are just about impossible to find. It took me six months to find a starter for a friend that has one. I know where one has been setting for five years with a bad hydraulic pump. They can't find one any where.

So the only way I would ever buy it would be for the value of the attachments plus scrap weight price for the tractor. That way when it needs a more major repair you can just sell it for scrap.

well that sucks. I guess i got the answer i didnt want but needed. The thing is..is that it is almost impossible to find a decent running 50-100 hp tractor in my parts of texas for any reasonable price. They are either new and really high or they are trashed out and the owners are high...bad hyd. leaks, no pto working...bad tires etc etc....they usually lie just to get you there to see it.

Dad gave me this 272 just before he passed away. I think he gave $1500 for it. I use it all the time. I know where to get parts but it don't seem like it never needs any.

Maybe if you googled Leland you'd find parts dealers. There's one in Missouri.
I picked up Leland 272 about 15/17yrs ago. It's used weekly. It was maybe 10yrs old at that time. It works for us. during the time it has been here it has needed a starter solenoid and a new water pump. That's it for the machine under our care.
Passing along One Warning: careful using the locking differential feature. I understand that feature's hard on axles.

Fern(Mi) I searched all the dealers in the lower 48 states and those that advertised parts in England and Canada. Many of the parts just are no longer available. I needed a complete starter as the old one had a broken nose so it could not be rebuild. I also know of two others here local that had the internal hydraulic pump fail. They have been setting torn apart for the better part of a year now with no parts in sight yet. There are some models that are harder than some of the others but in general they all are just running on borrowed time until they have a major part fail that is no longer available. Plus many of the American models where not sold in Europe. I am glad you have had good luck with yours but I will stand behind the statement that Leyland parts are just about impossible to find.
