Happy Victoria Day- May 24

weather aint bad up here either, a little cool at night but during the day nice and warm! Happy Victoria Day to you to!

Right back at you. You're right about the weather. Don't get the beautiful weather like this too often. Usually cool and rainy.

Help us out down here, Is this Victoria the Queen or the secrets? Just kidding. Would this be similar to Memorial day weekend in the states?

It's Queen Victoria's birthday. May 24,1819. Kicks off the beginning of summer and gives everyone that drinks an excuse to over-drink. The purpose is othing like Memorial day, which as I understand it, is for remembering those who died serving their country(as opposed to serving their country, and returning home) but I suppose it is simliar in that it's held only a week later and is a long weekend used for basically the same purpose as May 24.

Is this another one of your special holidays, like Box Day. Never could figure out what that holiday was about. You guys do enjoy your holidays though. I like the one you have in July where Ontario takes a break or a holiday I guess they call it, for a couple of weeks. It seems like every time I travel over there is during that period and can never get a motel room.
I traveled last summer through Canada from Mi. to Alaska with a couple of your country men from Toronto. We were on motorcycles and had a good time poking fun at each other. So don't take it personal

You have it about right. Memorial day used to be called Decoration day and was started right after the Civil War to decorate the graves of Civil War dead. In time it came to memorialize all service dead. It is the traditional kick off to summer as well and the weekend of the Indy 500.

Used to be called Empire Day here, then Commonwealth Day. As children (early 1950s) we had a half holiday from school, then bonfires and fireworks at night to celebrate Queen Victoria's birthday. All that has now gone (fireworks were banned).

We now have a Queens birthday long weekend in June instead.

A Monarch who reigned a country which subjugated other countries by force for the sole benefit of themselves.
Let's celebrate.
