Gasoline vapor in sediment bowl - vapor lock

Hauling manure outta sheep pens today. Temperatures in the low 90's. Our loader tractor, a '49 JD B, (yeah, I know, get something newer...).
Anyway, gasoline is boiling and vaporizing in sediment bowl. Doesn't run very well that way. Having to stop and let it cool down every few minutes. Gasoline is fresh, bought last week end.
Even tried wrapping bowl assembly with terry cloth towell, and keeping it moist. Evaporation helped cool it a bit, but not toatlly successful. Short of putting ice cubes in the gas tank, any suggestions???

Is the fuel boiling in the tank too or just in the fuel line? If it's just boiling in the line you could try wrapping the fuel line in aluminum foil, with the shinny side out, to reflect some heat away from the fuel line.

Some tractors and vehicles have added a piece of sheet metal between the hot exhaust and the fuel tank/lines to act as a heat shield to keep some of the heat away from the fuel. Leave an air gap on both sides of the heat shield for air to circulate.

Sounds like it may be boiling down by the carb and it's just visible at the sediment bowl as the pressure works its way back to the tank!!

Split a rubber hose that has an Id the same as the lines OD. slip it over the line from sediment bowl to carb. Place an aluminum pie plate under the carb and tape it in place. This may be necessary till summer blend fuel is put in it. Even then some insulation is probably going to be needed. Jim

You either got a batch of gasoline with an out of spec RVP(Reid Vapor Pressure) or you have an extremely hot spot near your tractor fuel tank.
Vapor in the bowl area could result in a serious fire or explosion. Todays gasolines are much lower on RVP than they were years ago, so I can only imagine the problems they had running that tractor on gasoline from years ago.

Lots of fuel issues get blamed on vapor lock, but I've never heard of such a thing happening on a John Deere B. I think I'd be doing a thorough cleaning of the sediment bowl, a good inspection of the gas tank to make sure there is not an obstruction of some sort, and maybe even the gas cap to make sure the gas tank is getting vented.

With a JD "B", there is not much chance it is even running 170 Degrees..not likely it is heating the carburetor much..
I would vote to check for an obstruction at the outlet of the fuel tank, or sediment bowl..
May want to try some Fresh fuel and see if that helps..
"Newer"..??? That JD "B" will NEVER get Old...!!
Ron..

If your 49 B is to old then what is my 1935 on steel then a museum piece??? As long as they run there never to old and even if they do not run they can be fixed.
As for your problem sounds like it is just plain running to hot or the tank has something in it that clogs it up from time to time
