hay season not looking good

I baled 109 bales today on a piece that yielded 283 last year. This year's is a lot better quality than last year's it being August 24th last year when I baled it. Despite a fair amount of rain for about a week prior to mowing, a low place that normally has a few cat tails in it was dry this year. The orchard grass is all headed up and looks like it will be gone by in less than a week, but not a very dense growth.

Lot of alfalfa cut & put up (bags & silage is very popular here in southern MN for first cutting...) and it is early for a first cutting; but the alfalfa was short & thin. Dry early, then a frosting, and then pounded by 4-6 inches of rain.

We are back to dry & hot again....

The grass hay likewise is short, some is starting to head now so it's about doe growing.

I baled about 85 bales(40 lbs) per acre yesterday & today. Not good, as the yield last year was 110 and I've put down a good amount of fertilizer & lime since last June to get it higher. I can only assume the dry weather & earlier cut is holding the yield down. Hay is nice but amount is troubling. I'm in York Co, PA.

Everything in mid-MO is two weeks ahead this year. Orchard grass is blooming as well as the red clover. Going to start cutting Monday, looks like the yield is going to be down here as well. We need rain bad. 50% chance tomorrow, got our fingers crossed here.

Ya hay so far seems to be less then we had last year in the same area and it is early compared to most years. Di around 100 squares a few days ago and did 4 big rounds yesterday but then I do a little at a time

I sure do hope we get that rain today. We need it bad here at the Lake of the Ozarks but not going to hold my breath for it to happen. Been doing some hay already and it is good hay just not a thick as it has been past years or sure does not seem to be so

We had that same weather I baled my alfalfa/OG Friday night and it was about 45% of last years first cut.
We got 1 inch rain last night.
