bouncing fuel gauge

Anyone know of a fix for this? Gauge is steady when the tracor isn't moving, but once the machine is rolling the gauge moves constantly and eraticaly from full to empty and everywhere in between. Tractor has two tanks, and the senders appear to work, i also can't find a wiring issue that is obvious...
The tractor has only been doing this for a year or so, was perfelctly ok for the first few years i used it.
Tractor is a MF 3670 if it makes a differance.

Sure is hard to guesstimate how much fuel is left towards the end of the day...

With the switch on and the engine off wiggle all the wiring and see if you can get the gauge to react. If not, replace the sender. The contacts are worn so that you are not getting a consistent resistance in it when the tractor is running.

Might check to see if it has a constant voltage regulator in the wiring for the gauge. It takes the shakes out, and gives a steady reading.

What Owen said,

Over time, the contact on the slider has worn down a bit. It is intermittently losing contact.

It you're really careful, you can take a small lock pick and bend that slider arm to give it a little more pressure against the resistive coil.

Allan; why would you know about lock picks? I havent forgotten that it is my turn to buy coffee, wife and I might be coming through your country in a few weeks. You up for it?? Bob

Had the same problem on a JD 5410. Turned out to be a failed "fuel gage damper" module in the instrument panel. A new module had the gage indication nice and steady again.
