So,

Here we are coming into the summer months and yes, the never ending line of motor homes, RVs and those Gwad-fersaken travel trailers clogging the roads and field of vision.

'Course, now we gotta drive 50 mph so's we can save fuel!!

Allan

Seriously I wont be in Nebraska, Im takin the Southern route Memphis,,,,,,,Austin TX,,,,,,,San Diego CA to visit all three kids but on the way home its Utah and Colorado for a month to see rocks and mountains (takin in 5 National Parks) Ohhhhhh Yeahhhhhhh But that boring drive across Kansas is a killer grrrrrrrr

We don't have much of a problem with RV's.

We have them 2 wheeled vehicles with pedals.

We build million dollar bike trails but those are to boring to ride.

Nothing like following a bike up a hill at 5 mph without a clear view to pass.

Gary

What scares me is the 80 plus year old that can hardly see over the steering wheel in one of the giant diesel pusher motor homes. Going 45mph in the center lane of the highway, weaving into the lanes on each side. Scary.
Hope I don't offend any one of you one here, but if everyone is passing you, honking your horn, its time for you to speed up and stay in your lane!!

Rick

Of course on the RV forums - both in the spring during tillage work and in fall during harvest you see the same complaints about the darned farmers hogging the roads. I don't equate the importance of leisure travel to feeding the world but they do.

If you think they're bad in Nebraska you ought to see US12 in Branch County, MI the day after race at M.I.S. It's solid RV's, travel trailers, Motor homes, all driven by guys still blurry from a three day drunk. Quite treat!

John, if you're taking 96 across Kansas in mid-June you will have the opportunity to meet hundreds of bicyclists. They come across right during harvest when hundreds of wide combines are sharing the road with them. It's fun to watch the combines coming through, but it's NOT fun being the driver of the truck hauling the combine. Jim

When we got married took our honeymoon to Colorado and there was not much interstate 70 built past Junction City, just in spots. No campers as I remember, just lots of little towns.

What's your problem Allan? They go by here every day. I kinda feel sorry for them folks. If I had to take that much stuff with me to travel I'd stay home. I read a story one time about a man who traveled all over the world with an extra shirt and a pair of sox. No passport no nothing. He would sneak on a plane and go where ever. Then the customs people would catch him and send him home on another plane. Drove his family nuts.

The part that makes me crazy is that in order to drive a 5 ton straight truck that's maybe 30 feet long, I have to have a CDL and a DOT card.

But any superannuated old fart with the money can buy a 40 foot motor home, hook his Ford Wretched Excess on a towbar behind it and drive all over the country on his regular license.

I'm on the wrong side of 60 btw...

If you ever drive I-80 in the east side of the state, you will wonder if there is any flat land in IA.

We had a real parade block traffic for 20 minutes, or so, around here. Police unity bicycle ride, about 3 miles of 3 abreast pedal pushers, with police escort, front and back. Bikers were yelling Culley, back and forth to each other, I guess a fallen hero, I'll have to look it up, later. Didn't disrupt my day much, I was on the way home, chillin with a cold drink, from the 711, after plantin t'maters in the garden. It was a nice rest.

A big amen to that. When I was a kid and just rode a simple old bike when I came to a big hill I got my a?? up off the seat to peddle. These folks riding have to be sitting down all the time.

When we useta go to races at Brooklyn, I had an exit strategy worked out where we'd hit Coldwater less than a half hour after the race was over.

Allen, that traffic is commerce that creates jobs and puts food on other people's tables.
