Older tidy tank for diesel

I have an old tidy tank that hasn't had diesel in it for 5 years. I want to use it again. Inside condition unknown. Any ideas to improve it before we us it?

I bought an old 300 gallon tank once and had no idea as to what was in it. I figured that attempting to clean it adequately would be a time consuming, expensive, and frustrating job. I did roll it over and ensure that it was drained.

I went to my local farm supply store and purchased the inline fuel filter with the removable paper cartridge that traps debris and water and bought some spares.

Filled her up with fresh diesel and away I went. Have yet had to replace one filter due to low flow (clogging).

Just have the tank high on the end with the pump on it. That way the bad stuff will tend to settle toward the rear. I also have pulled the pump out and raised the suction pipe up just a little so there is a sediment area in the bottom. Then after a few tanks of fuel I drain the tank and screen the stuff that comes out. If it looks good enough to burn great if not I have a bunch of parts cleaners and brush starter fuel.

Since using this kind of arrangement, I have never, in 30+ years had a clogged fuel filter on a tractor nor remove the filter for normal servicing and find any water in the water separating part of the filters. It works.
