# for tag off starter of a 1944 John Deere A (unstyled)

I am looking to find the numbers that should be on my 1944 John Deere A -unstyled tractor starter. I pulled the old worn tagoff, and have a new one,but need to now what numbers should be on the tag. Can anybody help me? Thanks,Ken

You"re talking about the starter on top of the fly wheel? A 44 would be an early styled tractor. I use to have one that was a hand start, but know they made/converted some to electric start.

You need to do some figuring to find out exactly what you do have. The last Model A john Deere unstyled was a 1938 with the first 1934. In 1939 they became styled and you could not buy a unstyled A in 1944 because they did not build them that way at that time.

My Dad bought a new styled A in 1941 with starter and lights. That tractor became mine when he passed away and now my son has it. Still running and has never needed to be restored.

If you have an unstyled '44 A it's a rare beast. I have a styled '41 A and can check the starter for a number tomorrow, as long as I can get at it without taking it off.
