2510 John Deere Hydrolics?

I have a 1960's model 25/10 John Deere tractor that belonged to my late grandfather. I have never used it and dont know much about it. The tractor starts and runs great, sounds great. However it will not go into gear. It wont go forward, or backward, the power steering will not work, and the 3 point hydrolics in the back will not go up or down. I've attempted to pull all levers inside the cab that I could find, the hydrolic oil is full, new and fresh. I replaced the hydrolic filters as well. Im hoping that it is something simple that I'm missing, and hoping its not the pump going out. The tractor was last used and parked 2 years ago without issues. Is there something else I should try before replacing soething expensive that I dont need to?

Built 1966 to 1968 model years. Nice little tractor and collectible. Considered by some to be equal and even superior to the 3020 of the era.
It appears the operators manual has gone missing but the good news is 1-800-522-7448 is a source for replacements. Service manuals too.
Gas, diesel, Power shift or syncro-range? Does the shift move but no wheel movement? Or is the shifter handle stuck? Does the pto spin?
Is there any water in the bottom of the trans sump? Was the tractor exposed to freezing temperatures?
Looks like a test of transmission oil pressure could be a place to start?

Yeah, I changed the two hydrolic filters below the frame. It wasnt working before I changed them either. approx 2 qts of fluid drained out of each cylinder when I took the old ones out. It is power shift, I believe the whole system is ran off hydrolics correct? Also I'm not familiar with the suction screens...Where are they located?

HydrAUlics! haha yes thank you. Owners manual has gone missing, I'll try that number. The tractor is diesel with power shift. The shifter moves just fine, and no wheel movement upon shifting. PTO does not spin at all. Not sure where the trans sump is located however, so Im not sure if there was water in there. This lovely Idaho weather did get below freezing several times these last couple winters.

Yep- the manual is where to start. Down low on the side, I think on the same side as the filters, is a flat faced plug, maybe about 2" in diameter, with small hex hole in the middle. One long, small round screen in behind it.
Congratulations. Diesel AND power shift! WOW!

Didn't some of those JD's have a lever to turn off the pump to allow for easier starting?

Could this model have that lever?

Just asking.

Gary

Gary, I was told of a lever as well, but I've yet to find one. I dont know if its in a little hiding spot or what. On the floor board next to the chair by the heels of my boot theres a lever on both sides, but there was no response.

The destroker affects the front high pressure pump only.
The trans pump should still supply the pto clutch/brake, the PS clutch/brake packs, brakes and trans lube oil. Then supply the front pump with what flow capacity is left over.
Either flow to the pump inlet is blocked. The pump/pump drive has failed. Or a gross leak at the pump outlet.
The trans divert valve if working would send priority oil to the PS, brakes and PTO if there was any oil flow. If the filter was blocked.
Then there is the trans relief valve which is only supposed to open if trans pressure exceeds approx 175psi and dumps oil back to sump.
Maybe time to call in an expert. Cheaper in the long run to repair it just once and do it right the first time.

Top picture is the transmission disconnect clutch lever and lock.

Bottom picture is the transmission rear end disconnect lever.

There is a lever on the left side of the dash on the powers shifts. It is a disconnect lever for cold weather starting. It lets the engine crank over without having to turn the transmission. It will lock back when pulled. This will make the hydraulics, PTO and traction drive all not work. I am attaching pictures. To unlock it you pull the disconnect lever all the way back with your left hand. Then take your right hand and pull the small knob out that is on the front of the dash panel on the left side. Then let the lever forward slowly to engage the disconnect clutch.

Then if the steering and hydraulics work but it still will not move then the TOW disconnect is engaged. This is the lever at your left heel. This shifts a collar that connects the transmission to the pinion shaft. It is so you can tow the tractor with out damaging the transmission. If I remember right it is back to be engaged and forward to be disengaged. You do this with the engine not running or with the transmission in park. To get it to shift just rock the tractor back and forth using the rear tire.

You can also email me. We can trade phone numbers and I can walk you through it over the phone. I am willing to bet that you or someone else has pulled the transmission disconnect lever. When it is locked back it will not move but just a little.
