"ELIZABETH, Pa. (AP) — Police say an 84-year-old western Pennsylvania man wounded a home invasion suspect with the gun he carried in the Korean War.

Elizabeth Township police say 25-year-old Raymond Hiles was captured not long after trying to break into Fred Ricciutti"s home early Tuesday morning.

Ricciutti tells WPXI-TV (http://bit.ly/JdVDJ1 ) he heard Hiles break a window and then confronted him, firing a single shot that grazed Hiles" neck.

Investigators say Hiles was arrested a few blocks away, carrying a screwdriver and a stun gun. He"s being held on $100,000 bail on charges including criminal trespass and burglary.

Online court records don"t list an attorney for Hiles.

Authorities say they don"t expect to bring any charges against Ricciutti."

Amen, Fawteen. I'm too crippled up to handle any fool, for lack of a worse word, that would mess with me. I'm proud of Mr. Fred Ricciutti for taking care of business. I shouldn't feel this way but I thought it's too bad he only wounded the dirtbag. I think we'll being seeing more reports of the same thing as our Viet Nam vets reach retirement age and can be at home or hanging around their places in the country.

Yep maybe that is the reason I have a weapon in almost every room of the house and most are not where a person can see them easy like the pistol that is less then 2 foot from me right here

Coupla years ago, I read a story where a couple in their 80's were watching TV one evening when a couple of young punks broke the front door down.

The old man pulled out a .44 magnum and fired a couple of warning shots. He then held the punks at gunpoint while his wife called the police. The police arrived in short order and hauled the punks off.

Oh, BTW, they said there was a brown substance on the floor where the punks had been standing.

Do ya even have a shotgun in the bathroom?
Just incase a guy breaks in while you are making a donation to the Obammy campaign.

Gee the miscreant had a screw driver and a stun gun, what about assault with deadly weapon or assault with the intent of committing great bodily harm? I think after he's convicted they should stand him up in front of a wall and let grandpa take another shot at the guy, don't want the old man thinking he can't do stuff anymore, that would be bad for his self esteem, he should get a free shot so he can feel better.

Any low life that prays on old people because they think old people are easy deserves whatever they get. I have absolutely no pity on that type of scum. The only problem is that most of them live to try again.

Thanks for sharing that Nancy.

About a decade ago, not far from me, about 20 miles west over in South Bend, something similar happened to an old fella, about the same age. As the story was reported at the time, the ol' fella didn't live in a good neighborhood, and some young neighborhood tough punk took a personal disliking to him, and one day went to his porch where he was sitting and beat him up, because he was there. No other reason, except that he was there. The punk ended up going to jail and made it clear that when he got out, that he was going over to the old timers house and finish him off to get even. Sure enough, he gets out of jail, back into the neighborhood, and up the block where the ol' fella is sitting on his porch, making it clear all the way up the sidewalk for the neighbors to witness, he was going to take the ol' timer out. The ol' timer made it into his home and bolted the door. The punk starts kicking the front door in and the ol' timer yells out for him to stop, he is calling the police, and he has a gun and will shoot. The punk keeps kicking the door in, the ol' timer calls 9-1-1 and the punk finally kicked the door in and charged the ol' timer in his livingroom where the ol' timer shot and killed him.

The cops came, plenty of winesses including the 9-1-1 dispatcher, no charges were ever filed against the ol' timer, and should not have been. Now the best part in this, the South Bend police officers took up a collection to repair and replace the ol' timers front door, purchased the materials and some of them went over and replaced the door, fixing the ol' timer up. Made the local papers and the TV and radio news at the time. Was even an internet story about it too.

Nope no fire arms in the bath room but I do have enough chemicals that there is no need for a fire arm plus if they get that far something is very wrong since they have to walk by the sons room and he has enough fire arms in his room to stop the Hulk

Well if I know your coming no big deal but show up after dark then maybe you better call first. Even the Cop have been met with me having a 44 mag on my side if I do not know why they are bugging me

Well to tell the truth the next time it happen if it does the guy has been told he will have a rain of bullets going his way and yes I check and yes I will be with in my legal rights to fire back since when it happened me and 2 other people could have been hit so it would fall in to the self defense laws. But also as I have told you if you can not answer in a way that helps stop bugging me

I think the old man should be made to take a gun class. If it happens again he will have a better chance of killing the idiots.

Nancy, I just finished the article. LIke I said, Instead of holding him for questioning, they should give him a medal and a ticker tape parade down the main street of town. Thanks for the post. Regards LOU.
