Anybody ever heard of this ???

I had a flat tire on my pick up & took it in to have it repaired where I bought them because they had free flat repair. They pulled it in the shop to fix it & came in to the waiting lounge & told me all my tires were getting wore right down to the point if needing replaced. I said that I didnt have that many miles on them & that I thought they had a 60,000 mile warranty. I got the original reciept out of the glove box & showed them that they only had 36,000 miles on them & they should be pro rated. They said they were over 4 years old & that the mileage warranty no longer applied. Well I read my reciept front to back & it doesn't say anything about years old only miles. They told my it is a nation wide tire manufacture warrany that will not let them warranty anything older that four years. Any body ever heard of this???? I didn't mention where I bought these as that is not the issue as I have looked on several tire manufacture web sites & yes they do state that tires over a certain age have no warranty regardless of miles. I only drive several thousand miles a year so mileage warranty is pretty well useless to me. Gerald

I've seen and heard the same.

these super high milage warranties are almost pointless.. unless you are a over the road commuter that racks up 20k a year.. you could never get 60k on tires. and at that many miles.. I bet the tire may have otherwise died for some other non warrantied or repairable reason.. side wall cuts.. cupping / uneven wear..e tc..e tc.

I have a truck that is seldom used. tires looked new / measured new tread when i sold it even though they were 8ys old.. only like 1k yer year on them..

but nobody would touch them to patch even.. I guess there is some sort of a date code on them??

Drive them untill you feel unsafe than look for another tire dealer,Dealers dont fix tires for free,its a way of selling you new tires

Read the fine print. Now days they have a X number of years or the mileage which ever comes first. Sad to say but any more they get you coming or going

I pulled into a "chain" tire store the other day to have a trailer tire swapped over. Told me they cant mount uesd tires, but they had a new one they could put on. kinda politely told them no thanks and I will not be back. Only reason i stopped it was a SUnday and the only place open. Monday took it to my regular tire guy and fixed with no problem.

Must be nice to only drive 9,000 mi/yr ot less.
If they won't fix the flat tell em to put back on, make sure it has air and go to another dealer/garage. Run it till it really needs tires.

Even if they had accepted, they pro-rate off the list price which is more than double the advertised pricing. You'd end up paying almost the same either way.

There is a date code on ALL tires, mandated by federal DOT.

It is a four-digit code, week and year. It is located on one side of the tire near the bead. Letters are about 1/2" tall.

1412 would mean the 14th week of 2012. Sometime in April.

Turn a penny till Abe's head is down and measure the tread, the top of his head is 2/32, min legal tread. If part of his head is covered drive it and find some other place to buy tires.

Lots of reason why tires do not get that the stated mileage, or rarely do. Rougher roads (pavement)or gravel, frequent turning without much movement/rolling of the tire, etc, etc...
if you want to have an older tire that a dealer won't touch, go to a Mom and Pop tire place, the kind that sells used ones for $5,- and up....they'll mount and fix anything.... liability set aside.

Knew a guy once, said he drove tires until the air stuck out an inch, then it was time to get new tires.

In 22 years in the tire business I never heard of that garbage. Buy your tires somewhere else.
