We cut our first crop of asparagus today. It has been growing way too early this year and near harvest crops have frozen off several times in the last two weeks. It's very temying to set out plants, bit our frost free window is Memorial Day. Spuds are peeping out and peas have been up for 2 weeks, but growing little. Been using raised veds fo 20 years now, and they maximize crop yields, and minimize maintainance.

Looks like a nice crop, do you have them only in one bed or more?
How well does that VAWT work, been thinking off and on about one, think they are better than the regular horizontal jobbys.

We have been enjoying rubbarb pie for the last few days. My wife makes 5 or 6 pies at a time, some apple some rubbarb, with three boys, 25,21 and 19 in and out of our house they don't last long. And you know nothing starts the morning off like pie and coffee before milking chores.

My asparagus has come on way early too, but it's the best I've had for a long time. Maybe the fertilizer I put on it last winter? My wife creams it and we have it over toast for breakfast, delicious.

Nice! Very purple. I pick the wild stuff from the ditch in front of my place. Got first harvest saturday. Rhubarb too. NW MN.

Love aspergrass- saute it with onions and zuchinni, can't be beat.

What is that little building in the last picture- the munchkin train station?

It's asparagus (spargel) time here too... The white is good but I like the green... The white is loosely called white gold because of the price it brings ($4+/- a pound) but is plenty of work..... Big deal this time of year with fests, Spargel Queens, etc.....

If you are contemplating any residential wind turbine, FIRST buy a weather station that will tell you (average wind speed) not just gusts. Here in NY we also can google in our address and it will tell you your average wind speed. You can also go to the Skystream website and enter your address and answer some questions on your electric cost and consumption and you will get a report, based on therotical info. Buildings and trees adjacent to a turbine will affect performance considerably. I much prefer the Skystream HAWT to the Mariah VAWT. The Skystream will make 10 times the power in the same location. The Mariah has to turn at 200RPM to "kick in" and maintain at least 142RPM to stay engaged. At 428RPM it will also apply a brake, and then a 600sec. countdown ocurs and then the brake is released. The Skystreams also apply a brake in heavy wind, but governs the speed, not shut them down.

There is black plastic under the river rock, between the boxes. The weeds don't penetrate the plastic and we pluck them out with ease. The amended soils in the boxes is very light and the wife and I spend some time weeding each evening. they are mostly weed free at the moment because I spent yesterday preping them for further spring planting.
