4366 Farmall.......

There's an auction this Saturday, May 12, several miles from me. Actually, the site was originally my grandfather's place and has been mentioned on this forum a week or two ago. The current owner, now deceased, is/was named Tieken.

I've seen a 4366 Farmall 4X4 sitting on the place for 6 or 8 years, never moved. According to the auction bill it has a bad main bearing.

Does anyone have any thoughts? I don't know what the heck I'd do with it if I did own it.

The way I see it, it's a $12,000 to $15,000 tractor in serviceable condition, and could easily cost that much, or more to fix. Then, if you fixed the engine, you don't know what else may have gone kaput while it was sitting that long.

Pretty common for engines to fail in those and 4386's but not much else. I would repower with a Cummins or Cat engine. I can't guarantee you will not find other problems but should not be likely if well taken care of otherwise.

ny986 what are you talking about? dt 466 is one of the best engines ever built (and they make a ton of power)you better look next time you go to a tractor pull.ther is not a cat that will pull with it

He is talking about having a small 466 CI engine in a chassis that needs 850+ CI engine to do justice to the avalible traction and pulling capacity. The bottom end of those little 466's was short lived because they were always so overloaded in a 4366. The frame is a Steiger design, but made of thinner steel as per IH spec, also IH insisted in using their own drive axles which I believe were from a 1066. If you had the front axle on good traction and the rear in mud, good chance you would break the front axle assy. A Steiger or Versatile of that vintage and size is a much more reliable tractor for your money.

A reman 466 can be had for about 5000.00, I don't know why you're worried about the repair bill being over 15000. As for the rest of the tractor, it's just like buying any other used tractor. Take someone with you who is familiar with this machine

Lots of running Dt466s in truck junk yards. I would think a couple grand tops for a low mile one.

There is a running 4366 on tractor house for $7000. Take off 25% for what it is likely to sell for.
