Seed Cleaner question

We have the chance to buy an A.T. Ferrell No. 27 seed cleaner that is in very good shape, but the owner wants to keep the screens to use in a newer one he bought that is the same brand. Does anyone know where to buy the screens and how much they cost? If they are not too expensive, we are seriously considering buying the machine. Rye, wheat, and soybeans (non-patented of course) would be about the only types of seed we would clean with it unless other screens were very reasonable. Thanks in advance for the info.

You can get the screens from A.T. Ferrell Company, (800) 248-8318. They are very helpful and have more types and sizes of screens than you could imagine. Screens are rather pricey but not many alternatives.

Let's see if I have this correct.Seed cleaner that relies on screens but he keeps them.Tractor that needs tires to move but owner keeps them.Plow that needs mouldboards to work but owner might need them someday. Now this is just one persons view point, but I would tell him to keep his cleaner and buy a new one with just the screens you need.To me it's a no brainer. The seller is a bozo.

Gosh, I am wondering too how come the newer one don't have screens? Someone along the line of sales has an extra set of screens laying around.

I'd shy away from it. The cleaner is no good without the screens, so unless you get a killer deal it'll be cheaper to find another one.

They would come with only one screen the same as combines that use screens did and you would have to buy the other screens you needed and the screen they came with was one you probably would never use. And for them to be shipped with all the different sizes for the different seed combinations would be doubling the price of the machine and you would possibly only need 1 or 2 screens depending on your crop that you want to clean. The same when that farmer had a AC 60 combine and traded up to a 66 or 72 combine he would let only one screen in a size that he did not use go with the old machine so he did not have to buy the new high priced screens. If you expect him to give away the screens he needs for the newer machine then you are out of line. And A T Ferall is located in Bluffton, Indiana and every year at the Ft. Wayne farm show they have a booth there and are nice to talk to.

Actually they are very hard to find and new screens easy to get. From that model sounds like a commercial size.

The price he offered it to me for was very low and the machine is in good condition. I only need 3 screens so depending on the price of the screens, it may be worth buying or it may not be. The sarcastic guy who made the comment about buying a tractor and the owner keeping the tires kind of made my point for me. If the tractor is cheap enough, you can buy more tires.

I don't know about your brand of cleaner, but don't most need a pair of screens, one slightly big, and one slightly small, to sort out the 'just right' seed? So for 3 crops you would need 6 screens, not 3? Just so you get the math right on your purchase.

A grain cleaner without the screens is not worth much. I bought some new screens several years ago and they where $400 each then. Atferrell is in Indiana. They are good to work with.

So I would call and get the prices on what new screens cost. Then you can make an informed decision on the total cost.

If the price is right for then go for it. I have always had my own cleaner and it seems like we use it every year.
