FYI Stihl dealers

Hey,
regarding my previous post and the folks that jumped in defending the dealers not wanting to violate policies.....

Just went to the main stihl USA website and explained the situation.....and got this answer....

Mr. N***,

We are in receipt of and thank you for your email. STIHL'S
policy is that the dealer must setup and demo straight the saw. Who they
sell to and how the do it is strictly up to them. Thank you again for
your email and if we can be of any further assistance please feel free
to contact us again.

Best regards,
Bob Myers

So relating that to the dealer I was trying to deal with, they want to have someone in thier store and drag things out long enough to try and push other sales more that they want a definate B&W quick sale.....

Dress it however you want.....

Probably more a liability issue than sales.
If some 10 year old kid buy's it off the net and get's hurt, there will be a lawyer called.

Dave, if you want to buy a Stihl saw in Canada, let me know.
I'll send you a phone number and sales rep at a dealer. You tell him what you want and privide a CC number. I'm sure he'll make it happen. email is open.

If the dealer signed a franchise agreement or contract to have the right to sell Stihl products,he has to abide by the contract agreement if he wants to remain a dealer for that product. Apparently that is a violation of his dealer agreement with Stihl corporate. I would consider switching to a different brand.

Thanks Bro... The shipping would eat me up there tho... Only reason I was trying aberdeen is it's close to my APO hub and my buddy passes the dealer and the post office daily. Would cost about 12 bucks to ship me the saw. From Canada, I'd have to pay international shipping to my German address and have to pay customs fees. Thanks for the offer tho. Looks like the MS130 is compareable in price (when I take off vat and get a longtime customer discount and add in shipping/inconveniences) getting it here. May actually come out ahead... Rest of the stuff is really out there...

Your right a lot of us defended our Stihl dealers, must be they
take decent care of us, sorry your experience hasn't been the same.
Their seems to be a big difference between power equipment dealers
here and their. One of the exchange students that stayed with us on
the farm was from Sweden. Her parents ran an equipment rental store
near Stockholm. She commented her dad rented Stihl, Jonsred and
Husquarvna equipment, he tried Homelite and McCulloch for a while
because they were cheaper but they didn't hold up so he went back
to the European saws. Although if you Buy a Stihl or Husky here now
they are made in America, that's why I wonder if they're the same
between here and there.

I hear ya about the shipping. I could buy a lot of things out of the US cheaper than here too... but the shipping and brokerage charges are the killer.

My local dealer is great... Just the prices suck.... My MS 250 was bought in the US but made in Germany. The dealer I was complaining about is in the US..... Water under the bridge tho.....
They not only missed out on selling a saw, but lawn tractor and snowblower that my bro was gonna buy from them... That'll trim a little off this months' profits I guess......and he'll be sure and point that out I'm sure.....

Must be your people skills Dave.

I just called Aberdeen Outdoor Power Equipment and ordered a new 20" bar, chain and a new sprocket. They took my card and said they could ship it out today. Even threw in some oil mix and jaw breakers for free.

Good for you....

I like to visit this site often and do mostly reading but also some
posting.

I see that you, dave2, like to post alot and I read most of what you
write but it just seems to me that the majority of what you write
about is just whining about things that we all deal with on a daily
basis. Do you have incredible stress at work or something and you
are not allowed to vent there or at home or something. If I whined
as much at home as you do on here my wife would tell me to grow
up.

Call it what you want... I just have low to zero tolerance for a lot of things and not a lot of patience...

You wouldn't believe how entertaining it is to read what some folks respond to my posts... Most I just chalk up to smalltown mentality which I miss sometimes, but the absolute coolest part that gives me the biggest charge, is when some idiot tries to jump in with personal jabs, comments, and insults to try and put me in my place and impress the rest of the folks... at least you had enough balls to use your real handle tho...... Hope you feel better now...

"Demo Straight"? Do you mean "demonstrate"?

It is Stihl's policy to service out and start up every new saw before it's delivered to the customer. And as far as I'm concerned, it's a darned good policy. Same way years ago when I was a McCulloch dealer. My agreement with McCulloch at the time required me to fill a new saw with gasoline and bar oil, start it up, and make sure it was running properly before I turned it over to the buyer. Plus, have the buyer start the saw himself a couple of times.

What would you do if you bought a saw through the mail and it didn't start when you received it? Who would you go to for help? How enthused would they be about working on a saw that someone bought through the mail?

Think about it.

That's how it was emailed to me.... Nobody wanted to buy a saw thru the mail. All I wanted to do was pay for it, buddy would have picked it up, had it demonstrated, and exchanged the secret handshake....

If more folks would step up and tell bubba he needs to shape up instead of all jumping on the bandwagon to defend him (wherever he is), mom & pop places wouldn't be being replaced by JD dealers and homedepot.....

I'm sorry but all three Stihl dealers that I've bought from over the years have been nothing but great in sales and service. If you called me from Germany wanting to buy something I'd hang up on you too. Don't be so uptight and let your buddy buy it and mail it to you. Don't be so stubborn.

I wouldn't expect anything different from missouri..... I can't remember going into a business or pretty much anywhere while stationed there that people weren't friendly and helpful.... The nicest 4 mares we have are from missouri also.... I don't imagine you'da hung up on me either (unless you're a transplant) without explaining and/or offering a suggestion or two..... OTH, you would prolly just do what I asked.......

I'va said it before and I'll say it again: I don't know who is more a douchebag - Dave the Buyer or Dave the Seller. I'd pay good money to see a video of you selling something to yourself. I bet the end of the video would involve either the buyer or the seller shooting the other...

The Deutschlanders are incredibly patient people.

a pretty short lived video that would be.... I don't waste time with a lot of smalltalk and haggling on either side. I value my freetime a little more than most I guess... If you feel that makes me a douchebag, so be it.....

Not sure where you got that thing about patient Germans..... If you're breeding them over there, maybe it's time to swap out a few pairs to get em introduced here
