Slightly O/T, Chain Saw........

I have larger saws, but I'm looking for a smaller, lightweight, dependable saw for trimming, to replace a cantankerous 14" Homelite.

Echo has a CS-310 model that's about what I'm looking for. Has anyone had any experience with these?

How much work do you have for it???? I wanted a stihl 192T and was having my buddy bur/send it to me.... He took too long, so I told him to skip it... Bought an electric saw for 1/5th the price and use it with the power inverter on the tractor.........

For a gas saw, I'd go with whatever service you have available.....

We are on our second Stihl 170. Its been the most used saw on our place. The first one saw many years of heavy use before it finally wore out. We have two other Stihls and have been well pleased with them.

Goose. I got tired of my old hard startin' Homelite and retired it. Bought a 310 Echo and love it. It's not that big but has had no problems handling oaks that were about 2'- 3' at the base. I'll bet I have 4 or 5 old saws, in my shop, Poulans, Homelites, even a coupla of old Macs. None of them can hold a candle compared to the Echo.

Get a Stihl MS 170 with a 14 inch bar, it's the cheapest one they make, nice powerful little saw. I have bigger ones also that I don't especially like, (they start hard) but the 170 is a thing of beauty!!

I use a Echo 3400 with 12 inch bar ( T 341 new number) that I use for trimming and cleaning up tops. I also have the Stihl MS-170 with a 14 inch micro chain bar. Both saws are good saws but the Echo is easier to use when cleaning up tops because of its size.

Both ECHO and Stihl are good/excellent saws. For me it boils down to dealer support. You decide.

I have Stihl, Poulan, Homelite and Husqvarna. I pretty much stick to the Husky 445; great saw. The Stihl is a good saw too, but it's a big 70cc so I just get it out for the heavy stuff. If you want to go cheap, and you don't have a lot of sawing to do, a Poulan Pro works ok. Just keep Stabil in the tanks.

I have a 16" Stihl MS-250 with EZ Start that I love, plus a 20" Poulan that's a good workhorse. I use both of them for whatever they fit, but I'm looking for something smaller for trimming.

The Echo CS310 kinda caught my eye from the specs. And the same full service dealer where I bought my Stihl has them, also.

I"ve got an Echo CS3000 and a Stihl MS200T both are excellant small top handle trim saws. The only difference is the Echo is about 3 lbs. lighter.
