better bond with you if that is possible or makes any sense. It just seems like some of you

Many faces can be seen at the Florida Flywheelers and various Expo's.
When meeting people from this site in person they rarely look like themselves.

My name is Harold Durham and I live in MD. I'm retired from the Federal Government. Its called Aberdeen Proving Ground and I went there shortly after high school in 1951. In 1953 I was drafted
into the Army and I got married. I was rehired as a returning vet in 1955.

We tested all the vehicles used over the years by the Army. If the Army used it we tested it except for clothing. We ran drawbar and cooling tests. We also installed the instrumentation on each vehicle before testing. I worked there 41 years and that doesn't include my Army service. I use to buy used Troy Bilt tillers that needed work. I think I had over 30 of them over the years. I still have one that was in sad shape, but with a new 10hp engine, tines and seals it runs like new. I also bought a few farm tractors. A Farmall A, Super C and a Cub last year. Still married to the same woman and we have a daughter that turns 58 next month and she was born at Ft Bragg NC when I was with 82nd Airborne. Hal

Real name is Nate, 30, teach in North Central WI, work for a couple large farmers after school and in summer, and my buddy and I are in the toddler stages of our getting our own operation going. Born and raised on a farm, so its a constant itch that I scratch.

My handle is my (first) name. I live in The Netherlands, relatively close to Ray UK (below) ;-)
I was born and raised on a farm. Having an MSc in Engineering Mechanics, I"ve had several engineering and project management jobs. Since 1999 working for Det Norske Veritas KEMA, doing assessment and certification work on the railway system, mainly rolling stock and automatic train protection and signalling systems.
I"ve been taken from the farm, but the farm hasn"t been taken out of me.

Hi, nice to meet you. I'm Anthony. Born and raised just outside North Adams, MI. Spent most of my life here, other than 3 years in the Chickasha/Anadarko, OK area when I was in my early 20's. Currently just outside Moscow, MI.

Grew up on 20 acres, loved baling hay. Had a few cows and hogs. My dad had two Farmall H's and two Farmall M's when I was a kid, so I'm partial to Farmall/International. I have a JD single bottom, hand trip, steel wheel plow that used to be dad's. I have pictures of him using it back in '71 about a year before I was born.

Dad's a whole 'nother story. He was born in Germany in 1938, remembers planes making bombing runs over the house in WWII while he played in the yard with his donkey. His dad had several ships but they were all lost during the war. Anyway, he moved over here in the '60's(I think) and here I am.

As far as jobs & work, I was picking rocks for a penny apiece for the farmer across the road from home when I was 12. I've worked as a mechanic(RentX in Chickasha, OK), mechanic/equipment operator for bridge construction company(did the bridge on 44 just south of OKC), residential construction/remodeling for 12+ years, now I operate a 7 1/2' electric chain saw in the sawmill at a pallet & box company. Also do pretty much whatever maintenance they need, short of playing with 480. That stuff makes me nervous.

lol funny story there. Was troubleshooting the 3 head bandsaw one day. I forget what was wrong but I was doing electrical testing with the power on. Stupid, I know. Reaching into the guts of the power box, just about to put the leads where I needed to test, thinking "darn, this could kill me"...was carrying my cell phone in front pants pocket at the time, set on vibrate...suddenly cell phone goes off, takes me completely by surprise, I'm thinking early stages of electrocution, darn near wet my pants...was my lady sending me a text message. lol I love that woman, love her more than anything, but she almost gave me a heart attack. Figured that was a good sign to shut down the power before doing more. The good Lord has spared me more times than I care to admit.

Y'all have a good weekend.

Anthony

Hi Glenn,
Welcome to YT. This site is awesome, in my opinion. Of the little time I spend on my "crystal ball" (computer), this site is where I spend most of my time. There are so many knowledgable and good people on here that you couldn't buy this kind of information from a book. My handle is Kow Farmer. My name is Kurt. Hence spelling Kow with a K. I was given this name from my former boss. I am a small beef farmer and full time employee in a large manufacturing production facility. I would like to farm full time but economically and financially it is not feasible. Anyway, welcome. I believe you will really enjoy this site.

Hi Glenn,

As me handle says I'm Pete and I am only a Rookie compared to most on YT. Born and raised in Franklin Square, NY (Long Island NY, nearest landmark is Belmont RaceTrack about 10 miles west and NYC 25 west.
Suburban row houses of blue collar families, NYC Police, Fire, Sanitation Etc. When I was a kid a dreamed of being a Iroquois Indian but unfortunately was stuck living in Suburbia!

Started my PC software consulting biz in '87 and still at it today. Hate it at this point and prefer working with my hands and my head as opposed to my fingers and my head.

Left NY '03 post 911 as biz was almost none existent and while we were not yet under water on our house we were not making enough $$$ to live on LI. Moved to SC where we lived for 4 yrs outside Charleston. Too hot and sticky for our liking. In Feb '08 moved family up to York, Maine to a heavily wooded 1.5 acre lot! (Most land anyone in my family has ever had. LOL) Covered in mature Eastern White Pine ranging from 30-40 all the way up 75+ tall.

Only problem is ever since the developer "cut" out the patch to build the house, trees have been going down on a regular basis every ice, wet snow or "micro burst" storm. One section where a Nor'Easter got at it, looks like it has been bombed. Fallen trees, leaning trees ever which direction.

After getting tired of cutting up wood no one wanted (pine). Mills had too much due to the storms. Got a Alaskan Chainsaw Mill and started slabbing it. Made some nice big benches. Then my problem was hauling 18-24" by 10-12 logs out of the woods and lots of large rocks on property.
Got a estimate from a local excavating company and they wanted $6K to clear for a garage AND it would be more if they hit ledge.

Got the idea, to do it myself. Found the '66 Ford 4500 TLB in rough but
running/usable shape for $5k. Came across YTMag looking for info.
Love this old diesel. Battling leaks is a issue as I do not have the time or shop to fix it right now. No garage yet, not even any solid ground to work on. Gravel driveway or lawn and not much of that is even level.

Most of you would thing I am nuts but I would give up this software crap in a heart beat for a working farm. But with a wife and 3 boys that ain't going to happen unless I win the Lottery.

Pete
