I am scheduled next Wednesday to have a pacemaker installed. Do any of you guys out there have pacemakers? Does the magnetic field on your magneto driven tractor cause any interference with your pacemaker?? Thanks to all who reply.

My step-mom has had one for ten years with no problems. A month ago they decided it was time to replace it so I took her to the hospital, they cut it out, put a new one in, made a couple of stitches and she was good to go. She was awake the whole time they replaced it. When they told us we could go see her in her room after the surgery she was dressed and paceing the floor, ready to be checked out. They brought her lunch so she ate it down, we checked out and went home. She will be 89 next month. Jim

I'm working on my second one, the first lasted about 5 years of battery life. Two years on this one and going strong. No problems with normal life, only thing they told me was don't do too much arc welding. A little won't harm you just don't keep it up all day.

The micro wave thing was cured years ago, big magnets can cause things like turning it off,up or down. My wife is on #2, the first battery lasted 10 years, and before you ask,the pacemaker will go into a default mode when the battery gets to(I think it was)25% left. She didn t know what was wrong but something was, just know your body,if something is not right get it checked.

getting toward the end of the first battery on mine. like 7yrs. mine is defibulator/pacemaker conbined. my body didn't like it when first installed but when it finally accepted; it's been maintance free. i get mine checked every 3 months.

My dad has a pacemaker. Being around a running engine is not a problem, just can't lean over and get the pacemaker near the generator. Want to avoid getting shocked by a plug wire. Dr. said for him not to run a chain saw due to the possibility of the saw getting too close to the pacemaker. Also told him no arc welding. Took him about a year to get everything lined out, but now he is going stronger than ever at the ripe old age of 71. He bought an electric chainsaw and takes it and a generator in the bucket of the tractor to cut wood. He has gotten very good at gas welding. Any restriction the doc put on him, he has found a way to work around it.

I have a friend with a pacemaker, the Doctor told him to sell his motorcycle, sitting too close to the spark. He is looking at an antique car or a hot rod for a new hobby.

I'm on my 2nd Pacemaker with 6yr on the 1st & 5 yr's on the 2nd one. Great lifesaver, but you do have LIMITATIONS: No welding period !!-it will change the settings, Yes be careful of guns that have significant recoil, stay away from auto Ignition systems (at least 12"), and Most important Do Not use a battery powered ( DC )tools such as drills within that 12" minimun distance. Also you can't ever have an MRI for medical testing. Stay away from large high voltage transformers. As a retired Elec. Engr I feel Its well worth these few limitations. The operation to install them is pretty easy & you will feel it for a couple of weeks until you get used to it. Good Luck and God bless you

A friend of mine had those heart machines installed and was doing well. One day I asked him about driving a car. He said "No problem." "And actually, I'm Quite worried about YOU driving, IF MY heart would have any trouble, those little machines will take care of it----If your heart gives trouble----it's over for you----You are the one to be worried about!"
I still chuckle at his reply.

Had mine two years. Also have a defibulater. When told not to weld I asked, was it the buz box or the arc. They said don't get too near the buz box, arc was no problem. I work on car engines while running, not near gen. I'm 84.

I am on my second ICD..8 years total. Best thing ever invented. Every body is pretty much right on the rules. The one worst thing is to lean over the car hood and the alternator when it is running. That's a very strong magnet and you are right on top of it. The welders are a question and the factory man would not give me a definite answer. Best was run the cables directly away from you. Things like magneto engine and micro wave are no problem
