Guess it depends on where you come from as far as a no start....
don't turn over means it won't crank or won't start... You gotta guess if the starter rolls the moter or not...... won't fire .... etc.. all have a different meaning depending on where we are from...

Remember several of us mechanics one time leaving the motorpool for lunch...
One guy that always had a scabbed together vehicle was trying to start his car....

starter cranking like crazy but no fire.... One of our not so smart crew froma a different ethnic group yelled " The Batty Be Dead!!" "Fit (fix) da (the) batty and try again"....

Been almost 30 years and I'll never forget that kid, his face/name, or those words........

PS, the kid with the no start was outta gas......

Yes after being in the mechanic field for 35 years you can never ask a person too many questions, they even get mad sometimes cause they think you're trying to make them feel or make them look stupid.
It's just they don't understand how to explain their problem, and they don't know the terminalogy of shop talk!

No start has different meanings
No Crank is No Crank
Just clicks comes in different forms

So on and So on. It's endless.

Soooo many people nowadays don't understand when you ask them, "what's it doing?". They, like you said, seem to think it just needs a new "batty" when it's cranking over just fine, or "mebbe I need a boost" when it's out of fuel, etc. Where do they breed/create these people?
One look at Jerry Springer or Maury Povitch (freak)shows and you'll see, there are lots like them.

Went to work in LA few miles west of Naleans a few yrs ago. Checking into a motel, copla kids ran in. Momma behind desk yelled,"wha ju wan ju?" Took me awhile to figure out what she said.
