The over run clutch may top link set up

1969 Massey Ferguson 135 Everyone seems to agree that the over run clutch won't help the Pto shaft twisting in Two. Maybe I don't have the bush hog set up right. like I know nothing on how to do that it was already on there when I got the tractor. So how does it suppose to be set up? I only write and speak hill womp sorry!

Your problem is the bush hog dropping into the dirt too low, at least that is how you describe it.

You need to fix that - chain limiters on the 3pt arms to keep the arms from going too low, or wheels on the front of the bush hog.

This is a rare problem tho, bush hogs typically have skids on each side to keep the hog sliding on the dirt, not drop into it.

so, we might not understand your problrem yet? You might not understand your propblem yet?

They do make slip clutches that will fit on most brush hogs, that may help?

Your brush hog should have a shear bolt that shoulde break before the shaft twists in 2.

I suspect you have other problems that you are not seeing. Is the pto shafty too short, so it pulls appart & wrecks itself?

Is it too long and bottoming out?

Are you starting the mower at full throttle and slamming it into full power?

Is your 3pt top link set wrong and allowing the shaft to get bent too far or hitting a frame?

Just some rsandom ideas?

A brush hog should have a slip clutch or shear bolt in the PTO shaft some place so as to not have that problem. Also things like having the shaft to long can cause problems and or the shaft hitting some place when it is up or down. Sway bars can help the hitting problem as will stay chains so the hog can only drop so far and the chains will then stop it for going down more

An overrun clutch will not protect against an overload and that is what twisting is, for that you have to have a slip clutch or shear pin to take the load off the shaft. The overrun clutch will just keep you after the unit is up to speed from driving into your car or house or up the tree because the brakes on tractor cannot stop the spinning of the load.

First off,a 135 doesn't need the overrun clutch if the tractor two-stage foot clutch is properly adjusted.
Secound,it's doughtful the 135 has enough power to twist an average shaft so look for other reasons given above.

Ok I think I need 1.limiter chains. 2. bolts that shear. Question is What kind of bolt is that? The last bolt I put in there was a random bolt from the shed so I don"t know what kind it was. I have seem the article on the limiter chains and understand how to make them.

How is the support bracket from the top link attach point down to the back of the mower made? They are supposed to telescope in and out as the tail wheel follows terrain up and down, but I saw one once that was built rigid. The owner subsequently replaced it with chain.
