MN corn planting

Planting corn myself for the first time this year. Live in east central MN, about 100 miles north of Minneapolis/St. Paul, 70 miles north east of St. Cloud. Wondering if it is too early to plant this weekend or not? Ground is all worked and ready, planter is ready, seed and fertilizer are being picked up tomorrow. I'm tempted to plant Saturday afternoon as the weather looks to be very good. Just don't want to get too excited and plant too soon. Anybody else in this area have corn in the ground?
Jim or Dave, any thought?? Thanks

An old guy told me once, "You can't plant corn until you can sit your bare butt in the dirt and not get cold." What you do is up to you..

By your description, I must be pretty close to you. Im 50 miles E of St. Cloud. What I can tell you is that the planters are going wide open around here. Most of them started around Mon/tues. Hope that helps BW

Somebody should have given the old gent a thermometer- you don't have to wash up afterward.

Always heard don't plant corn until soil temp is 60 degrees.

I keep a germ chart hanging on the shop wall.
It shows "corn" 47% (22) 47% will germ in 22 days at 50 degrees
46---0---0
50---47---22
60---97--12
68---97---7
Check the USDA site for soil temps in your area.
We are at 57 degrees here 70 miles west of SF

Two years ago we had an early Spring, fields were worked and farmers waited til insurance date, April 9, to plant corn. This year, everyone seems concerned about frost, we"re past the bean insurance date (April 21), and just the last couple days, corn is going in the ground. Ground temp should be 55 degrees at planting depth to let corn germinate. Growing point won"t be out of the ground for many days, so I wouldn"t be afraid of planting now.
