Well figuring that I just had a young strapping boy here I thought for awhile about getting him some toys. Figured something on a string would work as he could butt it and it would fly back for more which he probably would like.

Looked around and Toys R Us had a thing called a Hopper Ball. Made of tough vinyl with a handle on it. Made for kids 4 and up with a max of 160#, 18" diameter, $13.

Had an old clothes line pole so I bought 4 of the balls and some nylon rope and you can see the results. He has ignored all his previous toys since getting these so I must have the right thing.

Oh and The hot wire across fixed the gate pushing. I have a couple of pre springing heifers in the lot with him and they liked to push on things too, including the gate, so they liked the toys as well as he did.

Maybe one of you have a similar situation (surely) and this may be of interest to you.

Will try to get the right pics uploaded.

Don't know which is more shameless....

A bull in the middle of the field playing with his balls in public or you posting pics of it on the internet.....

You texas people are wierd.........

2 Toughts I would like to share. #1 Years ago I worked at a tire store doing on farm repair. Coustomer parked his loader tractor in the barnyard while he went out to unload in the field. While gone, his bull had got rough with the tractor and busted the valve stem off the rear wheel. Tractor was 2 days old. If he had something like you have, it might of saved the tire. #2 Many years ago I raised hogs. Used to give them old bowling balls to play with. Cut down on a lot of aggression.

works for about every animal and people too..... small price/effort for peace and quiet...

Punching bags worked out well! Far far better than shooting him in the forehead and buying another deep freeze ain't it? Nice looking herd there, and I like the looks of the water back there too.

Several years ago I had to tobacco wagon break in half. I drug what I couldn't pick up by hand into the lot by the barn to be cut up and used as for scrap at a later date. Got down to just the old axle with the tires left on it. I noticed the bull hang'n out around it while he was pinned up in there. I got to watch'n him, he was scratch'n his belly for long amounts of time on the tires. I left it there, figured if he had that to work out his problems on it would save gates and feeders from get'n wrecked.

Thanks for your kind replies. Since putting in the toys things have really settled down around here. Neither of my 3/16x2" angle framed feeders have been dumped over, nor my plastic insert pipe framed feeder that the insert just sits in there. That used to be a daily event. Eat then see how far they could remove the insert from the feeder. Also, no crowding around the gate anymore in the morning. Plenty of room to get in and get the gate shut behind and a pleasant walk to the barn and they patiently follow.

Amazing what a little "sugar" will do.

If I could find the picture, I would post it. Back before I was a gleam in my Dad's eye, he had a small dairy herd. A dozen or so Brown Swiss, and Ayrshire, and Jersey cows, and 1 Ayrshire, I think Bull. Anyway, the pasture where they spent most of their spare time was also the parking area for the various implements and spare tires and such. The picture is of the Bull with a tire around his neck. He had rolled and tossed it around enough that it finally fit over his horns. Comical, if I do say so...

Good gate idea. I use a 'spring gate' across my gates to keep Booger from pushing it. 4000+ volts really commands his respect.

You know as well as I that a bull, or cow for that matter can go through any fence if desired. Perception is the name of the game and if they loose the perception that they can't go through it, time to load em up and take them to the sale barn.

Was buying a bull one day from a registered Brangus dealer. Showed me his for sale bulls except for one. We drove to the rear of the property and he pointed to a little black speck about half a mile away and he said......and he's for sale tool!!!!! Ha!
