Installing a Cab Door

Fixin to install a new door on my cab. Has a steel bar (L shaped) that attaches to the cab frame via the hinges and then 3 or 4 mounting points for the glass.

Concern is that I just paid $640 for this sucker and don't want to shatter it into a million pieces while trying to install it.

Take the frame off the cab and put the two on a flat table?

Get a helper and have them hold it (vertically) while I attach and tighten the nuts?

How tight it tight?

Thanks,
Mark

What brand? Most all of them that I know of use a special bolt that bottoms out right when they're as tight as they need to be.

Do not know what brand you are on but most have a special nylon insert that goes thru the glass on each boldt then allows for you to tighten just so tight. We replace a lot of them and ususally do it with the hinges mounted on the tractor, just have to be sure they did not get bent in the accident or you WILL shatter you new door as it gets in a bind. O as a dealer we do ever now and then replace the second one where the owner tried first. Takes a litle experience and knowhow.

Brand is Branson 6530c. Had it since Sept '07. Have had no problems with it and love it. It has a swing out door latch such that when it is cooler and you don't want to run the AC you can flip out this latch arm and latch the door with about a 2" gap at the front.

I was running my new drum mower in B4 of a C4 range tranny and the field had some variances. Out of the clear blue I hear what sounds like a cannon going off and the right door glass just shatters into a 1000 pieces.

I didn't hit anything and if someone took a shot at me, either I wouldn't be writing this or there would be another broken glass on the opposite side of the cab. Ha! Doubt that.

The glass is about 3/16-1/4" and has the rubber seal around the perimeter.

I did take a closer look at the 4 ea studs I saw yesterday, plus 2 on the handle and I did see a rubber washer. Didn't take a nut off to see if there was a sleeve around the mounting stud.

Looking back, either it went through a temp stress since we had 48 Ngt B4 last and the sun was shining on the door. Could have warmed it up before the frame expanded. The way it went all at once I'd say that was the case.....like when the rear window blows out of a car on a hot day.

Otherwise it was just fatigue from vibrating for a couple of hours.

One thing for sure. The AC WILL get to run in the future when I don't get cool enough from the rear window or sun roof being open.

Thanks for the reply.

I thought about that but the nearest dealer is about 50 miles distant and my trailer is too light for this tractor.

Thanks.

Liked your M. Looks like you got her set up to work.

Cleaned up the broken glass mess yesterday and removed the mounting hardware. As you mentioned, the glass is held in place with plastic and rubber (sleeves/padding) and no metal comes in contact with the glass. The sleeve sets the pressure stop on the hardware as it should be.
