What part of in La do you not understand
As far as I knew you could not get a road truck with a Cat engine after 2009. They stopped making road engines rather than complying with the new EPA rules that took effect in 2010.

Then today I passed the local Cat equipment dealer and see 4 or 5 new trucks on his yard with CAT on the grill.

So is Cat building road engines again or are they building Cat trucks and using International motors in them.
Just seems odd that you would discontinue your road motors and start building road trucks.
 
If I remember correctly some truck manufactures issued serial numbers to the engines they had before the change over.I could be wrong on this.

Cat is trying to give their truck engine dealers something to sell since they no longer build on road engines. The cabs and engines are Navistar but the transmissions are Cat built off of loader transmission parts. The old car dealer saying " there's an A$$ for every seat." applies here. If you put CAT across the grill somebody will buy it.

As far as I know.... they are built by International. The engines are 'built' by International.... BUT the bottom guts of the engines are perhaps best said to be of Caterpillar lineage. IH has added the fuel and emission systems or something along those lines.
The creation of the 'Cat' truck was announced a roughly the same time as Cat announced their 'exit' from the highway engine market.
The silly trucks look like the last 'Topkick' trucks.... on steroids.
I can't really see them being a big seller if they carry a 'Cat' price tag.

I think the transmissions are made by CAT though. Supposed to be the primary selling feature over the Navistar line it's based off of. Marketed as better than the Alison auto transmissions used in the IH variety of the truck. Some would argue the decals are actually the primary selling feature though :).
