I have taken on a Potato Planter as a project. Boy is she rusted solid. I have just begun soaking her down with WD40 and started heating a few of the joints. Anyone have any witches brew surefire mixes or techinques you would recommend to get things turning again?

Your wasting time with WD40. Go to an auto parts store and get some PB Blaster. Or go online and get some Kroil. Some use acetone and atf.

But PB and Kroil will go down a .00005 crack. set a can on the planter and spray it everytime you walk by. A heat wrench (torch) will help as well.

Olds recipe works great, half automatic transmision fluid and half acetone. Works better than anything else I ever used. Joe

heat as hot as you can get then quench with cold water, except for castings. that"ll break them sometimes.

jbp is correct. Actual tests on rusted bolt/nuts show it to be FOUR (4) time more effective and a lot less $. However its best used in a well ventilated space/ outdoors as the acetone fumes are not good to breath.
