First Mushrooms for 2012

Never found 'em this early before. . . usually have to wait till Mothers Day. Was gathering some rocks in the woods for landscaping and about walked right over them!

Haven"t seen a one yet around here, but its been pretty dry.
What part of Ohio? We"re near south edge, I was figuring season may be gone... maybe there"s some hope

Our season is already passed her in Central MO. At least it is for me. I found a few (40) but that has been two to three weeks ago.

The undergrowth got so dense that you cant see the ground any longer.

I dont ever remember chickweed being so bad.

I also dont think we had chickweed quite as much when I was a kid.

We have all sorts of plants, bugs, spiders and diseases that we didn't have in the 50's and 60's.

North Central Ohio. Thought it might be too dry also but these were towards the bottom of a shady hillside; usually have luck finding them on the same hill each year but not always in the same spot.
Nothing like that first taste of a crispy, fried mushroom!

I"ll keep checking here in the southern areas. We"ve missed a lot of the rain others have got. Been getting wet here maybe once a week. Yesterday was 2 days in a row for rain, so maybe....

The chickweed here is intense too.... can"t see the ground in most areas. My usual spots for shrooms have yielded nothing. Not even the halfways.

Thanks for the info

My son and I found 6 of them in SE MN on Sunday. Frost had bitten 2 of them though. When it gets up to almost 80F and then freezes, even the mushrooms get confused about what time of year it really is :)
