Who would you call in the Shenandoah area of Virginia to scrap or salvage a mobile home? I don"t have the time or energy for it but my neighbor is giving one away.
Thanks

Just be careful. What is the first thing you do when dismantling a mobile home? Remove the aluminum siding, of course. And typically, the salvager removes the aluminum, sells it, and never returns to finish the job.

30 plus years ago, dad tried to give one away with no takers.... put it up for sale, guy offered him 1K and it was picked up right away... after it was gone, and the guy was setting it up to live in, dad gave the thousand bucks to the kid's dad to help them out.....

find a dopehead.....

A friend in the excavation business demoed one last week. Excavation contractors usually have the needed equipment, truck and excavator, and could very well be not too busy.

what mike said,...get a deposit and return it if all is cleaned up,....i gave one away and had to finish the job...

There was a whole episode of Dirty Jobs on dismantling and salvaging mobile homes. Evidently there are firms out there that will do it.

You might want to check with the local mobile home dealer.

I tore down two that were here when we moved in and were too far gone to haul. It is a dirty nasty job, and the key is to leave the aluminum siding on until the interior is completely gutted and interior walls removed, then take the siding off and push on the wall, the roof will land off to the side where it is easy to tear up. Neighbor up the road is pretty hopeless, when he tore one down he took the siding off first because he wanted to scrap it and then asked me what to do next. They have no rigidity without the siding and I would not go into one. 3-4 guys and a 20-30 yard dumpster should be able to tear one down and clean it up in a day or two.

Where I live, area planning won't give you a permit to move a trailer that isn't 1985 or newer. Older trailers are junk, so you can't even give one away. It's going to cost me $400 plus the guy gets the scrap to have a 12x65 scrap out.

Zach, I bought a mobile home for $1.00 with the idea of making a round bale hauler out of the frame. I thought the tear down would be easy by using the grapple claw on my loader after I removed the siding. What a mistake that was!! The first chunk I grabbed with the claw worked pretty well. After that the walls just disintegrated in front of my eyes. It just crumpled. There wasn't a piece big enough to grab onto with the claw. In the end all I got out of it was a water heater, and it's still doing it's duty in the shop. Took the frame to the scrap yard and licked my wounds. Jim

I've had this guy scrap other trailers, so that's no problem with this guy. Piling up the scrap is only asking for someone to steel it. Then there would be a problem.
