Towing a truck

I know you guys tow your tractors on trailers here
and there. Have any of you guys towed a truck with
another truck? For example an f450 towing another
f450 with a tow bar for 300 miles. Is this possible
or is it a bad idea? Is it safe? I would guess you
would need to remove the drive shaft. Any thoughts?

I have heard that even on electric shift transfer cases that have no neutral indicator there is a way to put them in neutral, but that would only be on a 4-wheel drive.

If you can find a suitable tow bar, it's no less safe than towing a compact car "4 down", which RV owners do all the time.

You need some sort of rigid tow bar mounted to the front of the truck being towed. You should also have safety chains or cables.

I don't know how legal it is if you fabricate the tow rig yourself, or if there is a law requiring you to have a commercial (somehow inspected/approved) tow bar.

JoeM (GA) is very correct. If 4x4 with manually unlockable hube (or other positive method of preventing the front diff from turning, that will work. The rear driveshaft must be removed and wired up against the frame or crossmamber to prevent turning the transfercase/transmission. Failure to do this will ruin the transfer/trans.
Be careful to tag the key so as to not start the truck till the drive shaft is reinstalled, !!!

Thanks for all the replies guys. This is a two wheel drive f450 that I want the dump box off of. The engine is shot. I just might do the tow bar and tow it on the night shift.
