Well had the guy bring me the tractor yesterday to work on it. The funny thing was it was winched on the trailer and then pushed off by hand. I rode it off so as to be able to steer it and stop it if and when needed. The guy then showed me how it started an run and how the shifter worked. He messed with the gears and start to say when I let up on the clutch it will not move but it did more and worked in all gears like it should but would not the other day when he was tilling with it. The forward/reverse shifter has a lot of slop in it so that maybe where the problem is but any how it is here for me to look it over and see if I can figure out what happened to it and all but can only a guess as to what maybe the problem any clues would help Please
Thanks

My friend has a Belarus and that thing will do the exact same and u have to pull it of gear and mess with the knob and put it BAck in gear and away you go again been that way for years

I had a 250 as. It did the same thing.Play with the shifter a while and it would go back to working. Finally sold it at auction.

I had a 250 for 20 years. It used to get stuck in that creeper gear that was forward only. Even with the gearshift in neutral it moved forward. If you put either shift lever in any other gear and released the clutch, it would stall the engine because it was in 2 gears at once. (Due to that oddball transmission setup where the creeper gear drivetrain bypasses the whole rest of the transmission.) I cut a 6"x6" square hole in the floorboard around the main shift lever, unbolted and removed the shift tower, and used a screwdriver to flip it out of gear. Had to do this a couple of times over the years, BUT the secret was to shift out of creeper gear very slowly and not try to cut across the corner of the shift pattern. After I figured that out I never had the problem again.

Exactly,it's probably knocked out of range.Very easy to do on those when the trans interlock gets worn or out of adjustment. If your positive it's in range there is a drive coupler in the torque tube that can shear or come off. There is a cover behind the hydraulic pump on the rite side where you can access it.Clutch could have gone, but I doubt it.

The problem start when the guy was using a tiller and all at once it was out of gear in the transmission and the tiller started pushing him all over the place. He then lifted the tiller and tried to put it in gear to move it and it would not move no matter where he put the transmission shifters

OK,if PTO works we can rule out clutch or torque tube coupler issues as these do not have live pto.I'm afraid your issues lie in the transmission shift linkage. It still sounds like it's out of range whether by not understanding it or something came loose in the trans, such as the set screws that hold the shift forks to the shifting shafts. To make sure it's in range, push the main shift lever all the wa forward than either go right or left all the way.Sometimes you have to roll the tractor a little as these are flat gear engagements. When it goes into range you will feel it lock in the final inch or two. Then pull the main lever back and try any gear and make sure the shuttle shift lever is in forward or backwards.

The shift interlock on the right side of trans must be adjusted/aligned with clutch operation. you can see it operate w/clutch pedal. slowly press clutch pedal while operating shifter, you will notice a point when the shifter operates freely. this is where the clutch should also be released. "mine had a clutch pedal travel stop bracket missing which made the pedal go too far & shifter hard to operate & cause it pop into neutal whole in operation", if shifter does not operate freely check you shift interlock mechanism, or shift shafts for rust. The shift interlock will not let your shift shafts move properly if it travels too far keeping it from locking them in place during operation. Hope this help. took me awile to fiqure this one out.

If got one of those under a pile of kudzu... Waiting on FIL to decide to scrap it or let it just sit and rust... When he dies, it's going to the scrap yard the same day!
