Might have to upgrade my browser.

I'm still running a 5 year old version of Internet Explorer. I will Not let it update.
I've also disallowed it to use Flashplayer as I really dislike all those flashing ads everywhere.
I think they are distracting and annoying.
But more and more websites will not allow you to access their page unless you have Flash.
There's a couple of forums - like this one and a few other sites that I can go to. But more and more I'm getting the message below. As of yesterday Drudge will no longer let me in with this old browser.
Shucks!
Btw, I also run the latest versions of Chrome and Firefox - all three are running all the time but IE was a good old standby. I guess I'm faced with using the other browsers and seeing those crummy ads.
Too bad.

Mozilla Firefox has an add-on called ad-block. You can block ads by the ad server website so they just show as white blanks. There are only a few occasions that I must use IE at home (when accessing work websites) and I would go ahead and update it just in case you need to go to one of those sites.

Companies are increasingly sacrificing their own self-interest to the common good, by making your old browser obsolete. Everybody profits- by making their own application obsolete, you can just go to other sites; but by making your browser obsolete, you can't do ANYTHING, and you will upgrade, to the benefit of all.

Conspiracy, you say? Well, yeah, they reply, so what's your point?

It's not the browser's fault, it's economics and the price of "free" content - the website you wanted to watch has sold its soul and your clicks to the advertisers that run the annoying ads. The website won't/can't come up unless the ads run first.

if your referring to pop-up adds you can open your control panel and reset the level of allowed pop-ups to eliminate just about all of them ,i also block add-ons, coarse certain sites i have to right click to open, only one it didn't work on that i use was the weather channel, it's full of junk and aint to keen on the weather either

Thank you for this advice.
I went to DL adblock plus - free - and it told me I had to upgrade to a newer Firefox to use it.
So I downloaded Firefox 11 and then added Adblock plus.
Viola!! No more flashing ads.
This board is a one stop source of good info.
Thanks again.
