Tractor Tire Repair

I have a gash on the side of my rear tractor tire. My tires are fairly new but got slashed from something sharp...Do they make a filler or putty for gashes? I want something that I can do myself. If so, where could I find something like that?

Gemplers has putty. You may need to boot it as well depending on the depth of the slash. I have even seen then bolted back together!

I had one repaired, think it was vulcanised (sp?) but this has been 20 years ago. Don't know if they do it this way anymore.

I saw a rear tractor tire that was sewed up in a X pattern with some rope maybe 5/16" thick in Romania. It looked like it had been there for a while. I would think there was a boot behind the stiching.

Take it in and get it vulcanised. I had one cut and put a boot in and some rubber stuff and it did not work. I took it in and had it vulcanised and it only cost a tad over 100.00 and the junk that I put in to try to save some money was over 50.oo. Once it is done right it will last as long and be as good as a new tire.

I took a slashed front tire to the major tire repairer a year or so back. They no longer vulcanize slashes, and told me no one does anymore. Did put a large boot inside, and it's held so far. Had a slashed rear tire vulcanized a few years back and it's been good so far. This was done by a truck tire recapper, now out of business.

If you did not cut the cords and the tube is not showing, patch the outside of the tire. If it is cut through, put the biggest boot you can find on the inside and then patch the outside too. When the tire shops tell you you can t do that tell them to just do what you ask for. Mine has held for over a year.
