I think I have a stuck float because the gasoline is just running through the carb. I'm not sure how to take it apart. It looks as if the top screws off but I'm not sure, and I'm afraid I will damage it if I do something wrong. Does anyone know how to take it apart.

If I remember right there is a stem that runs from the top to the bottom and it unscrews like you figured. It should be all brass with no gaskets, so nothing to mess up there. The cork floats tend to get saturated after a while and don't work, so a person should always run them out of fuel when parking them.

Check out the Fordson house. They have lots of parts for the Mc D tractors. I have been dreaming about getting one for some time now.

I believe they have a brass float for them to replace the cork.

Hope this helps.

The nut is on the bottom that holds it all together. It's pretty common that the center stem will be rusty and you will twist it off but new ones are readily available. Give me a shout

Husband brought his in for me to take pictures of the steps to take a Model R apart and this way you can see the innards.

He bought a good one and some parts (the one that came on our Regular had threads stripped - so he took it apart for learning purposes). We should end up with 2 good carbs - one for backup.
The new center/suction stem shown in these pics is from Nebraska Cowman.
