barn fire yesterday

I've only talked with the fellow a half-dozen times, but as a full-time farmer he has provided friendly advice and information to me and my family. I consider him a friend.
He lost his entire dairy operation yesterday when a fire swept through the barn holding his Holstein herd. The rural community is pretty shaken up.
I'll go see him and his family when I finish work on Wednesday. Not sure if there's anything I can do to help, but I want him to realize he has support - just needs to point us in a direction.

Thats tragic. Hard to recover from. Ours burned in 1964. Late July so the whole season of hay was in it. The cows were outside, but we lost some calves.

A young dairy farmer near here lost most of his cows in a morning fire. The NYSDEC came by and told him he had to have all the dead cows buried by night fall or he would be fined big. Just what the poor guy needed while he was still in shock over the whole thing.

I would think the insurance company would fight that because that would be too fast for them to do an apraisel, could not even go in the ruins yet to determan how many died in there. After the fire inspectors were thru only then could the insurance do their job and the fire inspectors would not go in that fast due to hot spots.

Pick up the phone and ask him what they need. Of course they will say "nothing". But at least you have extended the offer. When you drive over face to face offer again. They lost everything, their minds are surely in a small state of disarray.

Had a similar situation to yours. Asked the guy what he needed, he said "all I really want is chicken and a mt. dew". Thought it was odd, but I cruised into town and grabbed a bunch of bbq chicken and some cold mt. dew and ice.

Ran into him at Christmas and we chatted for maybe 15 minutes. Second thing he said is "man remember the chicken you ran into town and got me? Its been 10 years and he remembered like it was yesterday.

Guess I am saying don't be surprised what odd thing you may help them with that would mean the world to them. Oil change in the truck, something like that, who knows.

Yep simple things count.

Friend had his plumbing business shop burn on a cold morning.

I ran and got gallons of coffee and donuts for him,his crew, and the fire fighters.

Never got so many thank yous in all my life.

They are going to need plenty help..
Give them a chance to get a grip on this and I am sure they will appreciate any offers of man-power or assistance hauling and cleaning up..

You might want to see if there is any available materials to put up any temporary shelter their other animals may need..

We have a problem here in Central Ohio...
Yesterday, 3 bars burned within 30 minutes of each other, only several miles apart..
Yep another Fire Bug....
