My dad gave me a 1994 GMC 1500 with 46,000 original miles. We're planning a trip to Chicago to see our son this weekend so I filled up today. It took 28.2 gallons and cost $110.00. I was shocked--not at the cost, but at the size of the tank. I shouldn't have to get gas again until I get home. Round trip is around 480 miles.

Bought a 95 dodge 3500 last fall. 35 gal. tank. I"m afraid to fill it up. Thats a lot of weight on 18 year old straps.

Yes, that will shock you. I have a 92 Chevy K35 with the large single fuel tank, which I think, holds 35 gallons =:-0

Adding injury to shock, mine has a 454 engine, in a 6500 pound 4X4 pickup, that makes 7-10 mpg.=:-0

Better sharpen your pencil.Yo may have to add gas on the way home.Gas went to 4.04 this morning here.A lot depends on how fast you drive.

My 97' F-150 goes to the Ford garage tomorrow morning for replacement of the gas tank straps under their recall program. Haven't dared fill it up, the rear of the tank is laying in the skid plate. A rusty F-150? Perish the thought!

Recall???

Just this weekend I had to repair a tank in a 97 F-150 due to a failure of the strap causing the tank to rub on the skid plate rubbing a big hole in it. Add in a little rust, which also lead to the fill tube to bustin off.....

iF ITS A 4x4 you will have to gas up again... My 94 gets 11/12 MPG if I am lucky 13...

I was filling a gallon can of gas to use for washing parts. Some wag at the gas station made the quip: "It's sad when you have to take out a second mortgage on your house just to fill your lawnmower isn't it?"

Gas and diesel delivered to the farm two weeks ago, about 1100 gallons, wrote out check for about $4400. Got the pain all over with at once!

Leaving Aug 1st for Yellowstone with wife and kids. New tank in Suburban hold 42 gallons. I'd better get used to looking away from pump on that fill up. Just wait for the click and go in with cash and vasoline. (about 2000 miles round trip)

If you have a 1994 long bed you should have a 34 gallon tank.

Most vehicles have fuel tanks large enough to give at least 400 highway miles from full tank. That gives you an idea of the fuel milage. My 1994 K1500 4WD gets 12 to maybe 15 MPG. I had an '86 Ford F-150 with two 18 gallon tanks.

My 94 Surbanan has a 42 gal tank ... I try keep it in the TOP side ALL the time ..
5 gal of Lawn mower gas .. yesterday was OVER 20 bucks .. { gas is 3.79 ...in central Iowa }

Just driving around town, mileage seems pretty good. It's just a two-wheel drive with overdrive. I'll keep track and report back next week. I planned to take extra money anyway;hopefully I won't need it. Truck has never been driven in snow the last 16 years so I'm not too worried about the straps. I had it all checked over at the station yesterday.

My 1989 Ford F250 with auto/overdrive trans and 351 engine gets right at 15.5 MPG on trips,I plan to keep it for at least another 10 years. Two tanks with 35+gals I can go a long ways.

My 77 Chevy 3/4 ton got 16mpg as long as I stayed under 50.There are plenty of fools going 75 mph and complaining about high gas consumption. There aint no free lunch. If you get there sooner you burn more fuel.

I really doubt that you will make a 480 mile round trip without stopping for gas before you get home, even if it is a 2WD. Fuel mileage goes down at interstate speeds over 60mph. Bring along some money for gas or a tow rope just to be safe.

Have a good trip, there is a lot to see in Chicago.

I just filled up my 2500 HD, and got 8 gallons of mower gas. $137. I don't drive the 2500 much, it is a thirsty beasty.

Just put 2 new tanks in my 96 Ford.Ruined 220 bucks.New straps 3 years ago.I keep the rear tank as a reserve.Cost 50 bucks to fill the rear tank.Im retired, dont run the roads.Fuel oil price hurts more.Truck shifts into over drive at 45 so I stay at 45 to 50.Went for lumber to build picnic tables.Ran the speed limit 55.Cars were piling up behind me and passing in dangerous places.
