JD 4020 BLUE SMOKE

Blue Smoke= Oil.
Black Smoke= Fuel.
Do a compression test on each cyl, Then put some oil in each cyl and check compression again. If compression comes up it is bad rings. If no change it is Valves. Fast cheap test.

What year, is it an early model ?
Is the blue smoke a new thing that came on quickly. Normally it takes a long time to wear out an engine and have oil burning past the rings.
My 64 4020 has a crankcase ventilator pump that pumps crankcase fumes into the carb air intake tube, which makes blue smoke..

If the air ckeaner is seriously restricted, it will pull enough vacuum in the carb air pipe to suck engine oil into the carb intake pipe.
