I know this is a long shot, but here goes, Anyone having knowledge of the theft of farm machinery from the farm 1 3/4 miles north and 1/8 mile east of Weldon Iowa on the south side of the road please contact the Clark Co Iowa sherriff at 641-342-2914 or call me at 515-462-4768. A partial list follows AC 4X16 3 point stearable plow in good shape, AC 13'6" tandem wing disk, older model, no rims, AC old style forage harvester, 2 AC 60 combines in parts, several 3X16 snap coupler plows not complete, AC 2 row cultivator, snap coupler bale spear, 1 row woods brothers corn picker, Geil silage chopper with corn and pickup head powered by a Contintal red seal 4 cylinder gas motor, 3 point 4 row vibrashank cultivator this has a 6 row bar, post hole digger to fit AC lift arms, John Deere model H spreader, soil leveler to fit under a John deere 4 row planter and last several tons of scrap Iron. Holy Crap...how LONG were you Gone..???

Better ck at local Scrap yards ASAP...

Post the Information everywhere you can..they cannot hide that much machinery for long...

Ron..

They didn't have to. From a list like that, that stuff isn't the kind of things that you use or try to resell. No doubt it was all at the crusher the same day it came up missing. No high dollar stuff there.

I tend to have a cynical view on these things, but I bet your thieves are closer than you think. You described a lot of stuff that would take multiple trips and heavy equipment to load. Somebody spent a lot of time doing this and they must have felt pretty confident and comfortable being there. My opinion, but don't be surprised if it turns out to be someone you know. Happened to me a few years ago...

The scrap yards are as crooked as the bastar ds that steal it,they should list the items, ask for photo ID and ensure that scrap is not comming in stolen, having to provide photo ID before you can unload scrap would discourage scrap metal thieves.

Both the legal scrap yards here need a picture I.D and your SSN before they'll buy your stuff. If you sell them enough scrap to go over a threshold amount they report what they have paid you to the IRS and the comrades in Madison so they can be sure to collect their taxes. Maybe we're going about this wrong if you find out what scrap yard the stuff ended up in AND can ID the seller turn them into the IRS, the Sheriff will be the least of their problems at that point. Trafficking in stolen goods is still a crime if you can locate the stuff in a scrap yard turn the scrap yard in AND sue them for damages, they'll end up making it right with you and sing like a bird on their "vendors" or you end up owning a scrap yard- cool eh? One of our local HVAC/refrigerator repair services had some aluminum condensers stolen from their shop, the owner of the HVAC firm didn't know they were gone until he saw them at the scrap yard when he was dropping some other stuff off. The scrap yard was more than cooperative in fingering the thief and willingly assisted the D.A. with the prosecution. There are still a few Mom & Pop scrap dealers out their that may be a little shy on ethics and by design or ignorance don't have the best record keeping but with the environmental regulations and IRS attention a lot of them are run by business men with to much money invested to traffic in stolen goods or not have adequate records that'll stand up to IRS scrutiny. I guess their might be some good from the nanny state.

There is a consignment auction this Sat. April 7 near Clarksville, IA. Suggest you contact the auctioneers Bud and Calvin Mennenga phone 319-321-3152 or 319-240-5510.

It is a large auction with four auctioneers at the same time.

Some of your machinery might show up here. The timing is right.

No one moved all this equipment real easy, sounds like it might have taken a couple of days with a truck or trailor or rollback with winch or a loader.I would be looking around.

Here in Jackson County, we have 2 competing scrappers, the older in business one is shadier than a tree, the younger one is allright, at least he got digital scales, even for aluminum (cans) my thing...lol
Jackson County SO also stops any vehicle with scrap iron they see on any road and make them confirm the origin of the load, plus check folks for warrants, etc. So far they always took at least one of the occupants with them to jail.....lol
Good luck, but I bet it is already at the smelter...
I just upgraded to a better security style shotgun...

when my brother in lwas dodge durango was stolen out of my barn we called all the local scrap yards and salvage yards and there all told us if someone was going to steel something for scrap they wouldnt take it local they would go as far away as they could because people suspect that you took it local. i would find scrap yards a lot further away and call them.

8 implements??.... and 2 combines??? All this stuff at once would have looked like the circus coming thru town. SOMEONE had to notice. And NO ONE told you. Your neighbors aren't your friends. The sheriff there better spend lots of time talking to your neighbors. My hunch? Your stuff is off your property.... but it ain't that far away.... yet. You know anyone with a small airplane?

Sorry that happened, and it is getting out of control due to the external_link changes to our economy and the price of scrap.
Keep in mind folks, you CANNOT shoot or kill someone on your property stealing your stuff. The only legal way to shoot is if you can PROVE that your life (not your stuff) was in danger.
You have heard the games about "shoot them and drag them in the house." That does not work anymore due to safisticated investigative techniques.
I believe your theives live near by. That just does sound like a random drive by, come back and steal it situation.

In my area(laSalle county Il.)there are 4 yards that buy autos by weight..
They will all take vehicles without titles(illegal under Illinois vehicle codes)and never get totally shut down, even if they get busted..Whats that tell you....

There was a booth set up at the farm machinery show this year sell'n security cameras. Said they could have every thing set up with a wireless night vision camera for $1,000. Sounds like a better deal all the time.

Hate to say it but like the others have said, that stuff is real close or already crushed. Stuff like that is go'n for less than scrap price around here at auctions.

In order to take stuff to the scrapyard here, you have to have a card like an ID card (photo ID) that is updated regularly. Has a barcode that is swiped at every visit and stuff that is iffy is recorded. If joeblow shows up with a little junk like pots & pans and obvious trash in small qtys, he can leave the stuff otr maybe get a couple bucks. Every town has a recycle spot with dumpsters for small stuff.
Used to be that folks just set what they didn't want on the sidewalk in frt of the house and others could help themselves until the scrapper came by on his rounds several times a week. Then the scrappers started being slick by handing out flyers to everyone with a number to report "thieves" and a reward offer that ended joeblow and left everything for them. They'll take it off the street for free but charge you to take it off your place.
Another reason I offered to clean a neighbor's place up for him and got some experts on here all wadded up.

I guess I been gone too long.... or just led a sheltered life...
Stuff didn't get stolen where I grew up and you very seldom hear about stealing in my area now. I am wide open withfence chargers and batteries scattered all over on pastures.

Actually you can shoot or kill someone on your property stealing your stuff - it’s just that you not supposed to shoot or kill them.

As for sophisticated investigation techniques - it sounds like someone has been watching too much CSI. Most investigations consist of a report being filed and maybe a walk around the "crime scene". Unless it’s on camera or there's some money to be made by the sheriff's office they give it the same effort most government workers exert.

Call the scrap yards, they might remember an odd assortment like that.

We had a flatbed trailer loaded with valves stolen from a job site in Oklahoma City. After several phone calls we found the scrap yard it was hauled to. They had the valves, the tag of the truck pulling the trailer, our trailer tag and a copy of the drivers license of the guy who brought it in. We gave all that information to the police expecting an arrest and our trailer back shortly (nice bundle with a bow on it for them). It only took the Oklahoma City police 6 months to track him down (to his address on the drivers lisence) and ask him a few questions (after telling us to leave him alone). By that time the trailer was also gone - he claimed someone stole it out of his yard. No charges have been filed - the guy had a lengthy criminal past and did over $75,000 in damages that time around.

If we hadn't wasted our time calling the police we might have at least gotten the trailer back.

I think with that line of stuff,if he finds out who did it,he'd better just ask for half the procedes and give them the other half for their labor hauling it away.

Sounds like our locals. Last time I called about something of mine get'n stolen they told me to call back if I found out who did it. I $$$$ you not!!!

Dave

Sometimes it helps to get the prosecutor involved, too- I would have made 2 sets of the info, and if no action by the police after a week, give it to the prosecutor. Then go back to the cops, and so on. Maybe to the mayor's office at some point. But the squeeky wheel gets the grease.

Should have said house burnt 10 years ago no one lives there. Yes we did check with the local scrappers, they had been contacted to come get the stuff. Mom wanted to clean up the farm, but she did not expect it to disappear.

You CAN sue a government agency for not doing it's job. in some cases it has helped, if in only convinceing the head of that body not to run for re-election. when the local police/ sherifs' dept sits on their tails too long, you gotta raise cain with the agencys that they answer to. put in a call to the state police and complain that you take their lack of action as a clear sign that they are accomplices with the theif.
Mostly, it will not help. But at least you tryed.
In my county 3 years ago we had the largest bust of a weed growing operation in county history. one large house and garage totaly devoted to wacky tobacky. raid done by state police and deputys from a neighboring county. why???. the accused was the retired DA and the house was 3 blocks from the front door of the sherifs dept!!!!

Try sueing the government for not doing its job - every person in the US has a case right now.

The Supreme Court ruled years ago that law enforcement does not have a duty to protect - I can't see them saying law enforcement has a duty to serve either.

I agree with several of the other replies earlier.

The scrappers are getting clear out of control. Unless you can catch them in the act nothing will come of it.

I bought a 20Wx12Hx40L clearspan building from Farmtek last fall. Planned on putting it up about now.

Nothing left but the canvas now. Had it stored in the back of a pickup with topper and a Jeep Cherokee, both locked up.

The Jeep has a broken window. That is how they got into it. They torched the padlocks off the pickup.

There WAS a trail camera to see who comes and goes. It is gone too, along with all my steel fence posts, tires on rims, several small lawn mowers. Basically everything that was small and light enough to load easily.

The building cost $3239.00.

They probably got a couple hundred dollars at most for all the pipes from it.

They even pulled the electric fence wire and took it.

Also missing an extra sickle for my Haybine.

It is out of control. I can't be two places at once. DOUG
