OK,the sales rep called me this afternoon about that Avipel bird repellent that has emergency use allowed here in Michigan. He said it comes in both liquid and dry formula. Cost is about $7 per acre. Available through Crop Production Services,Harveys Ag Solutions in Carson City, and he told me to check with Gallagher Farm Supply. He didn't have them on his list of dealers, but thought they could get it with no problem.

I posted a link to their website yesterday,or just search "Avipel". Supposed to repel Sandhill Cranes, turkeys, pheasants, geese, blackbirds, you name it.

Let us know what you find out. How do you apply? And more importantly how it works. Can I get a small amount? Birds are already patroling my oat fields - either picking up stray seeds that didn"t get covered up, or worms, grubs, etc.. So far, it has been mostly black birds, and, even though I get regular fly overs, the sandhill cranes aren"t a problem, yet!

It's a seed coat. He said the dry powder comes in a can like a an oatmeal can, said one can will treat one bag of seed corn. It's not a poison, but has a coumpond that's found in at least 94 plants. It gives them a belly ache in a hurry so they stop eating it and move on. I have to find a way to get the liquid on the seed. He said some guys were using cement mixers to get it on. I'll figure something out.
