Who's planting what?

There's a little wheat going in in the Red River valley of the north. Way early. Hard part is...the ground is so nice and dry you really wanna go do something. Usually it's under water. 25 miles NE of fargo.

I just planted 8 pounds of Dixie Lee field peas today (in NC). The weather looks to be between 50 and 80 degrees for the next 10 days, so I am hoping for the best. I am going to try for an early crop with the hope that prices will be higher. I have had 18 tomato plants set out for 2 weeks and I have not covered them up yet, as it has not gotten below 38 degrees. Also, 400 ft. of straightneck squash came up last week, and about 1/4 acre of field corn did today.

More oats next week. barley and wheat around the end of may. Most people around here are harvesting milo and early corn and sunflowers now beans proberbly month away yet

We can't plant field peas here in Oconee county, SC before July 1. If we do the bugs eat them up. After that, we have no bug problems.
What do you spray them with to protect them.
Richard in NW SC

No-Till drill should arrive today, and will re-plant hay fields after killing everything last summer to kill arrowgrass. Mountain valley 7190' CO.

All ready to plant oats here in CNY, but we're getting(I never thought I'd say this) welcome showers. Usually I'm happy if I can get them planted in April. I should get some in the ground in Mar. First time ever! Last year it was about May 10. I debated then whether to even plant them. It was good that I did because then I wasn't planting high dollar corn that would have gotten drowned out anyway.

That's interesting. For whatever reason, most of our bug problems occur in late crops. Usually, a dose of Sevin is enough to stop any insects. My big problem right now is weeds, especially nutgrass (or nutsedge). I have tried spraying Spartan, but that didn't work very well. The only spray that I have found to work has been Outrider in hayfields. My strategy now is that if I wait until it comes up and disc every time, it has to die eventually. Do you have any pesticide or herbicide recommendations?

How soon do they usually plant the beets? I sure hope they get the labor issue settled at ACS, I would like to go and drive truck again this fall.

Bob,
We have a bit over 80A of oats in and a couple more smaller fields to go, aboit 20A., here on Clinton Camp Farm, in CNY. It is snowing here today, "clipper stormes off Lakes Erie and Ontario, but we need moisture badly.

Sprayed Prowl on the garden last year and had the fewest weeds ever. Use Atrazine on corn fields.
Works sometimes.

I sprayed Prowl on some hayfields this year for sandspurs. I hope it works. I got Roundup Ready corn this year, so I will try to take advantage of that, too.

One more pass over the field and the trees will be going in. Mid-Michigan. Soil is nice and dry. Well, dry enough to plant trees. Few of the other farmers have been out doing tillage work.

Always plant first weekend in April. If I could have predicted the warm 80F March we had, I could have planted the first week of March. Trees really don"t care too much about soil temps. Stick them in the ground and go.

My son planted RR corn this year. Will probably have to use some 2,4-D to control resistant pigweed and pitted morninglory. I planted 3 acres of RR corn with my 8N and 1 row JD 25b Planter just to see how it would do. It has been up about a week and looks good. Also planted a few rows of Indian corn and Tennessee Limber Cob to keep the seed going.
