I bought a New Holland battery for my ford 4610 today, was $166 dollars! Last May I bought a 6 volt battery for my farmall H it was $90.00, in 05 the 6 volt was $44 bucks, guy said I worked here for 7 years and prices have jumped up. I may need to buy a team of horses and farm that way! Lol anybody use horses anymore to farm?

Is there a special battery that is so non standard that it must come from the dealer?
Check prices from many sources for the cost bennefit ratio. A gell battery might cost that mush, but whew that is a dramatic price. Jim

I took a risk, prolly foolish I know, but I had another NH battery last 12 years, so that's why I bought another NH battery, like everything it's prolly not as good as older ones, time will tell I guess!

We "play" farm with a team of Belgians. Use them to spray a sprayer that we mounted on a trailer with a 5 hp gas motor on it. Also use them to lay off the garden and corn patch and plant the corn and cultivate it with a one row riding cultivator. Also use them to pull out and haul firewood with a forecart and trailer. Its not that we don't have a tractor to do it, but it is pretty relaxing to use the horses. You can actually hear other things when working them! Beware though: they do eat a lot lol

There are only about five battery manufacturers world wide. They make them to different specs, but they can be depended on to be very similar. Jim

That price is terrible there must be someplace that has better prices. Here that battery would run around 60 for the H Group 1 for the A,B,and C were 34.95 and they had a special with 5 off on all tractor batterys. Dura Start have been using them forever and last around 6-7 yrs sometimes longer but i do check level and keep terminals clean and they dont set outside.

Yeah, I use horses, or should say I did. Old team died, starting new ones. Mixed power works. Use the tractor to load the spreader and use the horses to pull the spreader. Or use the tractor on the haybine and rake with horses. Or use the horses to drill oats and the combine to harvest. Horses eat a lot cheaper than tractors these days!

Yep. I use horses and tractors both for farming. Haven't rigged up a way to mount the headlights on the hames yet.

I pity you for buying a Newholland branded Exide battery.... but if you actually got the correct 4DLT for that tractor... that was a very good price. Most I see here are now closer to 200 dollars.

Used to say-shove a battery up their rectum and make the eyes light up. That way you won't have to worry about breaking the lights when handling the harnes.

I've just bought two batteries in the past month. One for the 6400, which I changed size for a plastic batery box that it sits in; deler wanted $300 for the right one, and the JD 'Strongbox' that I did use was $200. The previous 'Strongbox' that came out was 7 years old. Real good battery, I'd say. The other was for the mower. The old one was a 300 amp battery, the new one that went in was a 400 amp, for $58. The old one was original, and has been on it for about 5 years. No complaints.

Different specs? For sure. Went to buy a battery for 2004 MB & price made my knees weak, so went to Autozone for nearly half price, BUT when removing & replacing I detected a very noticeable difference in weight....so being the ever curious type I weighed both the old MB and the new Autozone batteries. MB=60 pounds , Autozone=40 pounds. Wow! But still starting a year later.
