Earl Scruggs

didnt Flats and Scrugs do the Beverly Hillbillys theme song? They were on the show a few times too if I remember correctly. They played some good music,

Sad to hear that, started listening to him in the early 60's in high school. Sure didn't grow up with todays "music".

Sorry to hear that. Haven't heard from or of him in years. I sure hope that he enjoyed his life to the very end. Life should be enjoyed.

I'm sorry to hear it. I have a number of Flatt and Scruggs records from back in the day before my time, they are one of my favorite early bluegrass groups, along with Reno and Smiley.

Great musician. Wonderful that his talent will live on through his records, and will not be lost as was true 100 years ago.

That is sad. You know, Jimmy Page once said that his finger picking was a cross between Earl Scruggs, Pete Seeger, and total incompetence!

bill,
Just wonderin if you were listening to the music or "scopin" out Betty Jo - At The Junction?
LOL

He was a great musician and innovator. That said, back in the late 1950's, he and Lester Flatt recorded a song, "Cabin on the Hill" that went to number 9 on the C&W charts. That tune happened to be written by my cousin, Bolivar Lee Shook. It took several letters from my cousin and his lawyer to get Flatt & Scruggs to even credit him as the writer. I don't think he ever received a penny in royalties. Bolivar was a cripple, he made his living tuning pianos, and teaching music. He certainly could have used his share of the money that Flatt & Scruggs made off his music. I love my Bluegrass music but I'm not a fan of Flatt & Scruggs.

Being primarily a jazz musician; you might think I wouldn't like the guy. Your're right. I LOVED the man and his music!
He innovated the "Scruggs style" of banjo playing. A thumb and two fingers and he could fly!
I'll miss him dearly. Gonna play some of his music for my elementary band students for the next week. Great is great; it's to be respected!
