Well after a week of 70s and 80s there saying a hard freeze next week, down to 20 overnite? Things have started to bud out and I here the peepers in the pond! I wonder what will happen to them? Strange weather. My fil was telling me he read a story about the blizzard of 1888, NYC had 4 feet of snow on march 17th I think he said.

As far as the peepers are concerned, they've always said they have to freeze three times before it's really spring anyway.

Yep the wives tail in my area if it holds true says we will have at least 2 more snow falls before it is over for this year. If it happen it will not surprise me but if it does not happen it will still not surprise me since this year had been odd any how

The old tale around here in southern Minnesota is that it is supposed to snow on the robbins tail three times before spring.Dont know if it hold ture or not............

I agree old, anything can happen
Yet. We had 3 inches of snow in may of 03 when all the trees were in full leaf, dident hurt them thought!

Here in pa 1993 we had 3 feet of snow on march 15th kind of expected around these parts last spring my apple trees were budded out and we got an inch of snow on them didn"t get much apples on the outer branches but the inner ones were normal. Just remember folks mother nature has to provide for all these critters she won"t starve them your crops might not be what you want but you"ll still get some

Didn't really snow 3 times all winter in s MN this winter!

Yet anyhow. :)

Alfalfa is all coming out, some weeds are strting to germinate, the early trees are starting to green just a tad - would be a pretty rough thing to return to 20 or so in the next 4 weeks. Not that it couldn't, just that it would be rough on a lot of things.

I talked with a guy that was from Mexico today. He said they had snow in Mexico this last week and he thought we had it pretty nice here in the Midwest.

In Mass here - a few years back we had a real late, prolonged freeze. Winter was normal, as was the spring - spring peepers out, flowers and trees budding as normal. Then it all froze hard. A lot of stuff died back, but The trees somehow rebudded and the flowers ended up fine. Spring peepers started peeping again the minute the ice melted again.

Nature's pretty resilient.

I think it's only us humans that complain about it when it doesn't follow our schedule : )

It's peeper! they are little frogs that start making peeping noise early in the spring. When you hear the peepers you know spring is here.

Bullfrogs are loud on the pond at night. In 1955, it got down to 11 degrees here and killed the oat crop. Also killed the vegetable crops in Charleston, SC at 15 degrees that year. Daddy had run out of fuel oil for the furnace and we sat around the fireplace to stay warm. Saw it snow flurry here May 10 in the mid 1960's. Everything cycles over the years.
Wheat is knee high here now and will be heading soon. Thank goodness for crop insurance.

Jay, here are a coupla pictures of that May '02 storm showing my full bloom Lilacs and ready to eat Rhubarb.
As you say, it didn't seem to do much harm.
The third picture was taken in March '98 which gives us an idea of what we could have had.
You're right; anything can happen!

In 1996 we had over 18 inches of what the weather man said would be partly cloudy with a slight chance of furries on the 20 somthingth of March. Been in the 70's for a good while here. Alot of folks are done put'n down NH3 (the first time) and a few are roll'n hard plant'n corn.

About five years ago it got down to 18 on Easter morn'n towards the end of April.
