Sorry, I responded in the wrong place.12 volt system, external regulator,Delco system, massey ferguson with a perkins ag3-152.The #1 terminal from the regulator, I know to be the field which I connected to the (f) blade plug on the alternator. Is a grey wire.#3 terminal from reg, lt blue I connected to the(s) blade terminal on the alt.The large 10ga wire(white) I connected to the hot terminal post on the alt, it connects directly to ammeter. The lt blue is the one i'm not sure of.Even if the ammeter is broken, the battery still is not being charged.

The battery is on the other side of the ammeter.
If the ammeter is burned out, alt can't charge it.
Check for app 14 volts between alt output and ground. If you have that replace the ammeter with one equal to alt's max output so it will not burn out.

The regulator should be numbered F,2,3,4 or 1,2,3,4.

The F or 1 terminal should have a wire going to the F terminal on the alternator.

The 2 terminal should be connected to the R (relay) terminal on the alternator.

The 3 terminal should be connected to a switched power source, either through a light or a resistor.

The 4 terminal is connected to a hot lead from the battery.

To test the alternator disconnect the F terminal from the alternator and apply battery voltage. If you apply battery voltage to the alternator field terminal without disconnecting it from the regulator you will but out the regulator.
