I missed this meeting, any of you hear about it?
Guy seems to think global warming is a Godsend to Michigan agriculture. Although we are having a very early spring, I'm going to withold judgement.

That's good. I hadn't seen that. Only thing is,I read that 1978 article from Time or Newsweek,I forget which,a few years ago and all the "evidence" that they used as far as falling crop production in Great Britain was about as faulty as Byrums assumptions in that speech. I've gotta believe there are a whole bunch of real reasons for the increased production that he cited.
I have to agree with the premise though. I've said all along that even if it was real, the results wouldn't be what the believers claim. Lake effect, that all of us in Michigan know so well is proof that they have their doomsday scenarios azzbackwards.

If we don't grow droughty when it gets warm it will be a benefit. In basic soil science we discussed the difference between fertile and productive soils. The professor explained a lot of fertile soils are not productive because they are dessert with no rain or so far north there isn't enough season to grow much of anything. Global warming will increase heat and water vapor in the atmosphere providing a buffering effect that will check the tendency for the earth to warm above tolerable limits. My criticism of the global warming model is I don't think they have accounted for the effects of increasing moisture and the additional carbon dioxide consumed by increasing plant life resulting from the additional moisture and heat. I also think the statistical model they use to extrapolate projected climatic conditions is flawed as it doesn't adequately consider cyclic and normal variations on our climate. I am not a scientist, I have a bachelor's degree in agriculture, but scientists and engineers that I respect with a proven track record in getting things done that have required dealing with multiple complex models have expressed these doubts on global warming. Please also note there is a pretty good chance Al Gore is a distant cousin, I'm speaking out against kin here.

well it was warm enough to grow grain in Greenland from 900 to 1320 and then the Norse people had to leave because it got to cold to grow grains . their homes are there on the coastlines so water could not have been any higher . look it up if you don't believe . the history is there.

I bet the seed companies would be surprised to hear that warming is why their hybrids work so good. And if the FEDS cut disability fraud, there will be plenty more workers.

right now the solar cycle is on the intensity increase. Normal thing, but 2 years ago it was at a minimum. The sun intensity is going to cause far more warming than anything we do. Count on it.
