Ebay best offer

i have seen them but never tried it. I assume it is kind of like a sealed bid process that towns use to sell surplus assets sometimes, but I don't know.

Just don't wait til the last minute.... We got a couple things by offering half the list price, ended up paying about 60 percent but it could vary quite a bit I guess depending on the item.... Look at the feedback of the seller...
 
This particular item has "buy it now", which is actually quite reasonable, but also has "best offer." It's a commercial seller, not one of a kind. I'm not in a hurry, so thought I might try it.

if you aren't in a hurry, just play with it. Offer half, they'll come back with no or maybe a "no, but" and a price........

I just bought a John Deere MPI(master parts index) with Best Offer. If they accept your offer, you have to buy it the same as if you are the high bidder. Saved me $25 and the buy it now price was reasonable.
 
I just used that a couple days ago. $100 item, offered $80, They counter offered with $92. I was pressed for time on that item so I paid the $92. I could have countered their offer if I had wanted to. Anyone can list items with best offer, I'm not sure how the fees add up for that. I'm usually buying so it doesn't matter. Some business sellers have the system programmed so that if your offer is above their min. it will accept the offer immediately. Otherwise the offer is good for 48 hours. Hope this helps. I've had no problems using that method.
 
Used in many times. Have had few good surprises. some guy had a injection pump on there for a 207D Case. Ad said $250 or best offer. I offered him $75 and he immediately accepted. That is a rarity though. Maybe he needed some quick drinking money.
 
I've used it on occasion.

If the "Buy It Now" price is in line, I'll usually offer 75% of the BIN price and it's usually accepted.

If the BIN price is out of line, I won't even waste time on it.
