I smiled when I read yesterdays posts about tractor tire prices. I just had to order a new 520/85R 46 rear tire for my Case Int 285. $2700.00! That's ONE TIRE!

Ive seen 600/16 tires double in price in a few years. My JD H has 800 bucks worth of new tires on it.Paid 400 for the tractor. If I look at a used tractor I look at the tires first.I worked on a farm over 45 years ago .We had a Farm All M with one new tire on it.Boys took the M to another farm and punched a hole in the new tire.Boss was wild,he said why didnt you ruin the old bald tire.

I bought a $1500 tractor at an auction. Put $2000 into an overhaul(just parts, my labor), 2000 for pair of tires(took off originals), and $1000 in misc small stuff. Probably only worth $5000 on a good day, but I know it isn't held together with bubble gum and baling wire. No powershifts to fail, no computers, no electronic injection. If she lasts another 40 years the money spent will look pretty pitiful.

Yup,the tire guy was telling Saturday that a guy I know bought a pair of 18.4x38 duals for $2600. Said you could still read the size on the face of the bars. He had him come out and take them off the rims and put them on the main inside rims. Said he was kind of sick that he gave that much for them til he told him new ones were $1700 each.

Yes Nancy, and if it's a dual, it'll be the inside one.

And it's usually dark.

And raining.

And the flashlight's dead.

Went to an auction Saturday- I bought a nice pair of 7.50-15 3-ribs for $10, and a real good matched pair of 12.4-24 rears for $2.50. Yes, $2.50. Sure glad I waited till the end of the sale.
