As we continue on this amazingly warm weather farming is under way in central IL. For about a week now people have been busy finishing up applying NH3 and any other work. Here is what we have been up to.

We had a couple little patches of oats with some grass seed to put in. So last saturday afternoon....

We put the seed in the drill and I sent nick and the drill to the field. It did sprinkle rain but we got them in.

Then sunday morning we went to the field to do the plowing where the cows have been running.

With the plow running 8 inches deep, set on 18" cut the 4630 could hold about 4.8mph without working to hard. With the warm dry weather this is about the best I've seen this plow.

Running right along side the 4630 was our 1971 4020 powershift. We had it overhauled this winter and we thought this would be a good way to break it in. Didnt work it too hard just pulling a 4-14" IH#16. Did a nice job.

Wrigley has been enjoying the weather as much as the rest of us. They day we plowed it was 82 degrees. Lots of people mowing thier lawns and its the middle of march! Talk of planting although its actually a month to early. So anyone else doing any farm work? Things will really get interesting here if it doesnt rain and or cool off. Only time will tell.

Nice pictures of you farming . Is this about the earliest that you have plowed and seeded? The plowing looks like a perfect job.
Thanks for the photos Bill. I really enjoy them . clint

A little anhydrous and manure going on in my part of NWIA but some places are a little too sticky to get serious about yet. Jim

We have 1 field to disc yet but we had a week of nice weather and now it's back to average. We got all the dry on and have to get the liquid on but still plenty of time for that. I forgot to mention that looks like the nicest job plowing I've seen!

Thanks for the pictures Bill - Been wonderin what you were up to!

PS: Stopped at the Warehouse for a burger last Saturday after the Glasford sale.

How do you like that canopy on the 4020? Have heard its quite cold under them on a cool day. I just bought a 3010 and have been thinking about a canopy like that or may just have to settle for the canvas type that"s easy to remove.

Did some corn picking with an old rwo row Oliver #5 picker on Sunday. Cleaning up some wildlife food plots. AC went out again on the hew Farmall 95 and my windshield mounted thermometer read 98.5 F.

Always enjoy the pictures you post of you activities. I sure like that low angle shot of the 4630, and the plow is doing a great job turning the soil over.

James has prepped some areas to seed with bahai for hay fields. Weather here is exceptionally warm, too. Probably plant in the next couple of weeks instead of May or when the ground dries out enough.

Temps running in the upper 70's to mid 80's. Nites are upper 50's to mid 60's.

Last week end saw grasshoppers and cicadas that were over an inch in size.

May be a bad bug year.

That # 16 plow must have been just prior to the #60, which was superceded by the #70. My dad had a ^0 when I was growing up and later replaced it with a 70
